Question about Klipsch speakers
I know this is a polk forum so dont flame me to hard. I have a neighbor who is selling a pair of klipsch speakers. check the photos there is no model number on them he said he bought them about 5 years ago. they look to be in perfect condition not 1 blemish scrape or mark on them I mean perfect condition they look brand new and sound great. I currently own a pair of RT600 I was just wanting to try something different. My question to you guys without there being any model number I can find on them do any of you guys know anything about them. Are they worth the $400 he is asking for them. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I like them a lot. I would say that they are worth $400 in an open market, but considering their size and the impracticality of shipping, your neighbor has a very limited audience when trying to sell these speakers. I paid $250 for a set that was MINT! Given the right person at the right time, yes they are worth $400 and they sound great, but considering you are a neighbor and right in the area, I would say a discount is in order. Listen to them first though!

The walls look nicer than the speakers! Sorry, couldn't resist.
Seriously, I would try to listen to them for an extended period of time, hopefully with your gear. If you like the sound of your Polks, I don't think you will like the Klipsch. -
LOL that is actually a room that was there when I moved into my house. It is seperate from the house 20 ft X 15 ft room. When I moved into my house this room was allready sheetrocked and had 1/2" r-max on top of that someone had allready installed the a/c unit and ceiling fan. I was like cool this will make a good sound room. I put in my RT600's, R30's, denon avr2500, and psw 404 and installed the wood floor sounded good I was pleased, but something was missing lots of sound bouncing around. I know alot of people say egg crates do nothing but it was cheap so I said what the heck and installed it. WOW what a difference im not a hardcore audiophile but I know what my ears were telling me there was a difference and the gear I have is what I can afford. I did end up buying the klipsch speakers for $300 and I also bought a nackamichi reciever AV-3s for $200. So now I have the denon running the polks and the nackamichi running the klipsch's.I dont make alot of money so this is high end to me. I know its not the ideal audiophile system and most in here would laugh at it but it works for me:) . check the photos.TV: Philips 42" LCD 1080p

I would get your equipment off your sub ( if you are using it ) if I were you.
My 2 cents for free.I like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D -
I agree miller a freind of mine is building me a nice rack for my equipment out of some nice oak. he has been working with wood for 15 yrs so he builds some nice stuff. The sub is turned off until he is done which should be in a few days.TV: Philips 42" LCD 1080p

Her voice was given to her by Angels. The band's no slouch, either!
Scored 5th row left center to their show in Charlotte NC. I didn't know wether to kiss her or the sound man. Both put on an amazing show. All songs sounded damn close to original.
But I digress, her early recordings are great, but anything from '95 on up, studios, collaborations, sound tracks (see O Brother) are picture perfect. Few artist send the chills like she does.

I had no clue who she was either, until I was flipping through the HD channels and caught her live on HDnet ....she has an awesome voice and put on a great show live. The first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club -

Very cool secluded room I would paint the egg cartons black and cover the lights of the equipment so as to make the room PITCH black while listeningThe first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club -

Be careful when using too much eggcrates (made of plastic or paper), walls, ceilings, curtains, etc. Using too much acoustic materials will deaden the sound (absorb the sound quick and will create a dull sound). Every material in that room has absorption coeffecient including people. You have to design your music room using the right amount of sound absorbing materials. I remember in my Physics class that you have to come up with a reverberation time ideal for music room. Let's say the ideal is .03. You have to come up close to that time. I can only remember some part of the formula since it's been quite a while. There is a table of how much absorption coeffecient each material has. You add them all and use that formula (which I forgot--RT= sum of materials, divided by...and so on....) Better yet look at the internet how to compute acoustics for a music room. Look for "Reverberation time" formula--and will find out if you are close to it or above it so that you can minimize/add more materials you will use. Maybe ask a Physics whiz or a physics instructor. I am just saying this so that you can maximize your system and enjoy listening like you are inside the audio store where they dupe you with the good sounding electronics and you thinking that it will sound the same when you buy it and bring it home. Remember, watch for those stores with listening room. That room had been designed like what I told you. (additional info) Paper eggshell crate and the bare walls does little to absorb the sound--the reason why it is bouncing. If you can find a rubber foam-type egg cases it will sound better. Be sure not to use too much of it for it will deaden the sound. Maybe use thick curtains and acoustic board walls and ceiling. -
Cool thanks for the info I will try some of your ideas I just started with the room and the egg crates were cheap.TV: Philips 42" LCD 1080p

While we're on the topic of listening room design, can someone point me to some reading sources on setting up a good listening room.

If you can find a copy, the Carver C-1 preamp owners manual has excellent step by step instructions for setting up speakers properly. One trick they recommend for locating sound absorptive panels is place one between the speakers covering approx half the width of the space between the speakers. Then sit in the sweet spot and have a friend hold a large mirror against the side walls. Starting just in front of the sweet spot, slide the mirror along the wall until you see the speaker in the mirror from your sweet spot. Place sound absorptive material on the wall at that spot.
