Has anyone really ever heard a difference in sound between the three versions of the SDA SRS (SRS/SRS 1.2/SRS 1.2tl)? I picked up a pair of SRS and am wondering if I should have held out for the 1.2tl. I already have the 2.3tl's. yes greedy I know. I have not listened to my new acquisition yet so I can't even form an opinion if I like them at all. The crossovers are so similar in all three versions. Construction should not make a huge difference. Basically is it a dramatic difference or subtle enough to be happy with the original SRS for a good price?
Thanks guys.

There are significant differences in cabinet construction, x-over design and parts used and drivers especially the tweeters. "TL's" use the newer Tri-laminate type tweeter which gets rid of a particularly nasty 5dB peak the sl2000 has. Both series of tweeters have newer silk dome replacements which are even better.

The 1.2 TL's were the last and best generation SDA's. Now having said that the original SRS's are no slouch and YMMV as to whether or not you hear a significant difference but from a prodcution and design standpoint each newer generation was improved upon.

If you have 2.3 TL's you are pretty close to getting the best made so absolutely compare your newly aquired SRS's to your 2.3 TL's and let us know what you think

Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. I will set the 2.3tl's and SRS's side by side and compare them without changing anything else. I will be using a Goldmund Mimesis 8 amp with an Accuphase preamp and an HHB-800 CD/DAC so there will be no compromise in the electronics. I have a pair of Monitor 7's, shall I keep them for the tweeters and woofers just in case? In that case I guess I will just sell the remains to whoever wants them.

Not to swift a move on the monitor 7's IMHO. Leave them intact,a very nice speaker.I think I know what the answer will be to the side by side but let your ears decide.

What should I do with the Monitor 7's. I tried selling them on Craigslist locally but no luck. I only want $70 for them. I am in SF bay area but am willing to ship. What do you think?

If you have 2.3tl's and the original SRS be happy. 1.2tl's will just give a little larger soundstage than your 2.3tl's. There have been many discussions of the differences between the original sometimes referred to as the SRS and the later 1.2tl. Try different ways of searching the forum like with quotes or using an asterisk. Here are some examples. ( 1.2tl* ) or ( "original srs*" 1.2tl* ).

If the tweeters in your SRS bother your ears, there are replacements available (RD0194) from Polk Audio that will fix that. Mention that you are a Club Polk member when you call.

The Monitor 7 driver is not used in any of the SDA's so read over this or print it for refeference. http://clubpolk.polkaudio.com/service/models/

Why are you in a hurry to sell the 7's? Have you listened to them?

I must have the 7C because they have SL2000's in them (one each).
Reason for selling? Too many speakers, I like big speakers, I will never listen to the 7's since I have little time, only one CD player/pre-amp/amplifier, and if I do listen I will listen to much larger speakers. I used to listen to the 7's till I got my hands on JBL L300/2.3tl/SRS. I need to offload some of these. My back room is actually full of hi-fi stuff. Altec Model 14, JBL 4425, JBL LSR4326P, Marantz 6-G and a few loose pairs of JBL speakers (076, 116-H, LE111H, 136A. Just collected too much stuff over time and it is time to liquidate. :-)

Thanks for the advice on searching the site. I will give it a try.
