Help with CSi5!

Just got this in, and it is HUGE! I have no idea how I can mount this thing in a good position. My TV is on a low bench about 13" off the ground. My mains are at ear level, mounted on the wall behind the TV. The CSi5 is currently on the floor, but that is certainly not ideal.

What can I do to get my CSi5 in an ideal position? The kick-stand that it comes with does not work with my TV. I am thinking about getting a whole new desk for my TV, but if I can work with what I have-- I'd rather. How does everyone else use their CSi5? Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Replied in your other thread, but here it is again....

This is the stand that I am using to put my LSiC above my Hitachi rear projection TV. It works great and is highly recommended. I really like the fact that it does not even look like it is there. (I mount the speaker against the front lip and then put the grill on the speaker to cover the lip of the stand. Works well and you would never know the center channel is not just hovering above the TV) If you do not have clearance issues I am sure it will work for you as well.

One word of recommendation - I have the stand mounted flat on the TV and lift the rear of the speaker to point it at the listeners using a pair of doorstops. I would not recommend mounting the stand at an angle so it is pointing the speaker at the listeners....

McLoki-- Thanks. That was exactly what I asked in the other thread.

The only other thing I wondered was if it would be a problem that this is mounted ABOVE the mains?

Also-- Are you sure this speaker stand will support the CSi5? I'm not familiar with your speaker, but I know the CSi5 is bigger than most centers. However-- from the picture in your sig, it looks like your center is quite large as well.

Lastly-- would it be better to just flip the CSi5? It is made to be reversed.. Is pointing it up from a lower position better than pointing it down from a high position?

Try it and see if you like it there. It'd be a hell of a lot easier. If not, then start looking for the best way to put it over the TV.

Just thinking about it seems bad to me(I'm not at home)... because where it stands-- it is blocking my cable box and receiver. It's in the way of the walking position as well... so I was really hoping to get it off the floor.

So perhaps on top of the tv would be the best idea--- but I fall back to my question-- Is there a problem if the center is above the mains?

I have my Csi5 above my TV and it's just fine. I don't believe there is any reason why they would need to be at the same level as the mains. For me personally, I prefer it above for separation purposes.

Thanks for the input daboyz! I just want to make sure before I go and buy anything. I'm sure I won't notice it anyway if the speaker is pointed down at me.

Is the center above the mains ideal? Of course not. Is it a show-stopper? Not for me.

My center is about 2 - 2.5 feet above my LSi15's. It is what would work best in my room and it sounds great. (I do have the LSiC angled twords the listeners ears when seated in the listening position.)

As I mentioned in your other thread. I would mount the stand flat on your TV and use rubber doorstops (you can get them at walmart for under $3) to angle the speaker off the flat stand. Much less chance of falling that way. I also used the non-skid stuff to keep things from sliding at all on the TV.

Edit - click on the quote in my sig and you can see my system showcase. There is a picture of my TV and front speakers (the one with the town speakers in it). The center is not shown in the picture because I had not purchased the shelf for it yet. Everything looks about the same as it does in the pic but there is a center channel sitting on top of my TV now. If you need any pictures of the shelf or of the center tilted, just ask.

    Ah there we go-- thanks.

Looks good to me. I'm pretty sure that stand will work fine with my tv/csi5. When I get home I'll measure exactly how much higher the center would be above the mains.. my guess is about 3 feet. I think I'll have one of my friends carefully hold the speaker above the TV and see how I like the sound... but regardless-- this surely seems like the best thing for me. Otherwise I'll need to buy a new desk.

Thanks so much for the continued help! I'll let you know how it turns out.

If you've got the time that would be excellent. If I get the stand I'm surely going to take your advice and get the rubber door stops.. but I would want to make sure I have them as you have yours.. so any pictures of that would be great. I really appreciate it!

Wow - you can really tell that I have not dusted the back of my TV since I put it up there a year ago. (and I really need to wipe off the sides of my center channel - sorry about that)

Well this is what it looks like. It appears that the speaker can just slide right off the front, but there is a raised lip that catches the speaker. I took the grill off, pushed the speaker against the lip, and put the grill back on so you cannot see the lip. I like the clean look it gives....

Also for the doorstops, I am using two of them to keep the speaker better balanced rather than one in the center. (I did not think they were wide enough - just need to make sure you push in both sides the same amount so the speaker does not lean left or right)

Looks great. Is the lip on the stand itself? I also took the grill off.. but if it sticks out alot I may put the grill back on the speaker.

The stand is fairly thin metal and the lip is just the front of the stand (the metal is just bent up in the front to make a lip). It will not stick out at all.

I have small children and don't want them to know that there are speakers under the grills so I never take them off.

Great. Sounds perfect for me as long as the sound is how I prefer it. I'll test that asap and then decide thereafter.

Again-- thanks for all the help! Now start dusting that TV. ;)

I use the same mount for my CSi5 and it works great for me. One thing I did was place several rubber bumpers (like what you would use under picture frames hanging on the wall) on the backside of the front lip of the stand. That keeps scratches off the front of the speaker. The stand is metal and it doesn't take much to scratch the front of the speaker. I also use them under the speaker for the same reason.

Ah- thanks for the tip mark.

And apparently-- Walmart doesn't carry doorstops. And on top of that I had to explain what a 'door stop' was to a few of the employees.

I forget what department it was in (housewares?) but Wal-Mart was where I purchased mine. They had white and brown plastic (rubber?). I chose brown to hide them a little better.

Mine goes under my tv. I have a DLP and can not use the foot either so under she goes. I'd rather it go up top but don't really want to have an ugly shelf attacahed to the wall. LOL

I also have the same problem, but with a Csi4. I recently bought a small TV stand with an LCD TV, not even thinking about where I would mount the center channel.

I'm thinking, does anyone know of any good wall mount equipment, or maybe just buying a shelf for the center channel, although it would look kinda funny?

    Thanks.

I was wondering the same thing. What if you have a TV that is too slim to get this Omnimount shelf on (like an LCD or Plasma)? I am about to get a slim TV myself and was wondering how to take care of my monstrous Csi40 (which is on the way, thanks to beardog03 ;)).

I was actually thinking, since the Csi40 is so wide and deep, the LCD might just sit on top of it.

The only thing I hate about it is, I cant angle the center channel then towards the sweet spot. Only other option is to get a book shelf that wall mounts over the TV. The speaker weighs a lot though, so I'm leary about doing that.

I just got the stand set up-- the directions were pretty poor but I believe I have it set up the best way. The doorstops I bought were pretty small so I had to move them closer to the front of the speaker for the best angle. I didn't use the adhesive pads on the feet because I didn't really need them, and I might move the position of the speaker.

I didn't know there would be pegs on the front of the stand though-- they come down so far that they are noticeable when there is light at the top of the screen. Perhaps I can flip it and use the pegs to prevent the speaker from moving, and the lip to prevent the stand from being pulled back?

When I'm at home later I'll take some pics.. I'm hoping to get a little more of an angle so I might lengthen the legs on the stand.

In regards to the sound-- it's odd hearing it from the top of the TV-- I've always had it below it before. Though I'll probably get used to that pretty quickly.

Patrick, my tv has a black bezel around the screen and then a smaller area of silver around that bezel. What I did was take a little black electrical tape and tape the lower 2/3rds of each peg. That sort of blacked out the part of the pegs in front of the black bezel and left the pegs silver in front of the silver part of the tv. I have the silver colored stand and that lip just blends in with the silver finish of the CSi5s when the grill is off. It all seems to blend very well when sitting a slight distance away. Not noticable at all unless you really look for it.

I read some reviews (maybe on Amazon or CC) where a guy said he flipped his over and used it upside down and it worked very well for him so you're right, that would be an option too.

how the heck do you have the speaker sloped so much without having it fall over? I want to do this
