Slope Questions

I understand what slope IS very well. I play around with my slopes, using
Alpine H701, and I run active. BUT:
I would still like to know, in a general sense, what diff. slopes can be normally expected to DO to my sound.
1. For example, if I switch my sub slope from 12 top 24, what audible result can I expect?
2. Likewise with mid slopes, and tweet slopes, for different values of slope. What should I be listening for, for the different values?
I trust my ears, of course, but wonder if there is some tutorial out there that will help me understand all this better. I looked all morning on the net could not find anything.

Trust your ears.....sometimes switching slope settings can actually help the music blend in a little better, making the transition from driver to driver a little smoother.Alpine: CDA-7949

The slope is just how much the frequencies below the cut off point are being attenuated by octave.
Say you cut off your subs at 63 Hz. A 12 db slope will be letting in a whole bunch of upper frequencies that can and probably will make your subs too boomy and pull the bass to the rear. A 30 db slope will chop off the response pretty quickly.
The other thing to worry about is what blends best with the next speaker up the chain.
Its all trial and error. It depends on about a billion different things. Just do your best to try all 1,000,000,000 and eventually youll find the one that seems to work the best.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005
