If you are really serious about music and trying to put together a 2 channel system, I would look into investing in a nice integrated amp.
Brands to look into: NAD (specifically the 320BEE), Adcom, Creek, and so on. Onkyo is a quality brand, but they mainly focus on the home theater market. They do have an integrated amp that I understand sounds ok, the 9555. Marantz also has an integrated as well as Pioneer.
I mean it's up to you, but I think other people are going to try to also move you towards an amp or integrated that have been designed with just music in mind.
Consider also the used market. You can get a great used integrated amp for a good price. (Integrated amps are ones that has the amp and pre as one unit making it very easy to setup a nice 2 channel system)
