Hd-dvd Not Through Hdmi

I am debating on whether or not to get a hd-dvd player. I have a hd-1080p tv from 2002. Would it be worth it to jump up to hd-dvd? I would be running through comp. not hdmi.
Everything I own burned in the fire!!!!!!!!!!

    HD DVD works just as well with comp. vid., that's what we use, we are not users, supporters nor fans of HDMI.

    HDMI is convenient, but very similar to Component in picture quality. With standard DVDs (upconverted)HDMI typically seems a bit sharper to me, but that can lead to oversharp/grainy in some seens. Component is smoother, but less sharp, IMO. HD-DVDs always looks awesome to me no matter which connection is used.

    I'd get an HD-DVD player. Love both of mine, and HD-A2s can be had for around $200 - $250 with 5 free HD-DVD rebate (I think they're still doing 5 freebies).

    COMPONENT is perfect for hd dvd. but to get true lossless audio, you need to use analog outs or hdmi. optical will only down-res the lossless audio to DD5.1 or DTS.

    and yes, the 5 free hd dvd deal extends through 2008. rumors are that the 3rd generation hd dvd players (hd-a3, hd-a30, hd-a35) will be boxed with '300' and 'bourne identity'. thus, 7 free hd dvds.

    That's likely because you're not actually upconverting via component (due to copyright issues), you're just displaying at 480P.

    You have a 2002 HDTV that supports 1080p? Man I got a raw deal. I bought my set in 04 and it only supports 1080i. Is it the Mitsu in your signature?

    or get your player hooked up to the internet and let the player itself find the firmware it needs.

    I bought the Toshiba. It looks amazing even on my 6 year old 1080i tv.
    I bought Casino, Dazed and Confused, Goodfellas, and Batman returns.
    I hate to say it but blu ray has a better selection of movies.
    Just rented some off of netflix.

    Warner, Universal, and Paramount/Dreamworks have combined to announce over 125 HD DVD titles for Q4, 2007.

    Well I'll be, I'm a halfway educated HT consumer and thought HD DVD was only possible through HDMI. Is that the case with BR?

    Great news, since I have a 4-5 year old 1080i Mits, component only, that I had dismissed as capable of HD DVD.

    Sure, they do make component out BR players. i.e Panny, Pioneer, Sammy

    I'd never buy one since none of them to this date are fully complient to BD specs; besides maybe the PS3 in the future which has the computing flexibility to handle the upgrades.

    go format neutral then. i really don't see either one winning or losing anytime in the next year or two. and out of the hd dvd's you just got, batman BEGINS is probably the best as far as video/audio. try king kong or corpse bride. rent them, if need be, and prepare to be astonished!
