Power cord question!

I have a Yamaha RX-V1400 receiver and it has a 2 pin detachable power cord and I want to upgrade it to a high-end thick power cord, but my problem is all the high-end power cords I've seen on net have 3 pin IEC connector, my question is, is it safe to use 3 pin IEC power cord instead of 2 pin cord.

    The IEC plug end of a 3 wire cord will not fit the C7 socket of a 2 wire connector. PS Audio sells a nice power cord with a 2 wire C7 plug.
