What do you guys make of this new technology. I've read a lot of great reviews & a lot of not so great reviews. Apparently it's here to stay. Whether we embrase it is another story. When you think about it the usual SS/tube amps out today are really old technology, nothing really exciting has changed about their designs in years. I'm keeping an open mind & will follow this trend closely. Maybe they're on to something ground breaking here. A lot of big name companies are using this technology in their new lines. Hmmmm...maybe they know something!! http://www.d-sonic.net/

I don't even consider gear that only offers 3-D renderings of what they "make"....what a waste of time.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Do a search over at AVS, there are some guys that have given D-sonic favorable reviews.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Pretty closed minded. I guess nobody watches the Simpsons either. Yea, I'm closed minded, LOL. I guess I need to buy a TADAC to be enlightened.
I believe ICE based power has some great examples available to the consumer but it isn't without its shortcomings either.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -

I find the technology interesting to say the least. I'm sure it does have it's short comings but like anything else you have to weigh the +/-. I really wonder if it's here to stay or just a flash in the pan.
Oh, & give the TADAC a try...it'll make you smile"2 Channel & 11.2 HT "Two Channel:Magnepan LRSSchiit Audio Freya S - SS preConsonance Ref 50 - Tube preParasound HALO A21+ 2 channel ampBluesound NODE 2i streameriFi NEO iDSD DAC Oppo BDP-93KEF KC62 sub Home Theater:Full blown 11.2 set up. -
This has been covered a few times in the last couple of weeks. If I was looking for lower cost IcePower I would be looking at brands like EVS, Murano, or Wyred 4 Sound.
As for the tech itself, it seems to be very popular in subs and beginning to catch on in standard amps. I think it will catch on quickly, great sound quality with extremely good efficiency and not too bad of prices.
There are pics of one of their stereo amps here
What "not so great reviews" do you speak of? I haven't yet read a bad review of the technology, the only qualms I have seen were some reviewers saying the midrange was a little muffled and the highs slightly recessed.

They day I see Ray Kimber with chip amps setup at the Venetian driving his Soundlabs, I'll let them pass for hifi. I've heard just about every offering out there, and some are down right bad, others are listenable - none are truely outstanding.
As far as ICEpower, there is only one manufacturer I would consider 'hifi' and doesn't have the hard edge that everyone does - the Jeff Rowland model 201 and 501 monoblocks.

Well I decide with my ears, not an endorsement from somebody else. And I was as skeptical as anyone when I heard about these "digital amps".
Then I built a Tripath based amp as a college project. I used high grade input caps and resistors, and have a proper power transformer and linear regulated power supply that is really overkill, but probably helps the dynamics and bass response. I haven't heard any production based chip amps, but I guarantee this one will give them a run for their money.
I just listened to John Lee Hooker and it sounded like he was literally in my living room. That is good enough sound quality for me. When I first listened to this amp, it was VERY detailed, more detail than I have ever heard in a recording, but it was also bright. It seems to have broken in and the highs are now perfect. I can listen to it all day without fatigue. I love this new technology and think it is the future because it will just keep improving. -

I seen those before. I would love to try one of those multi-channel amps for home theatre. The speed and dynamics of class D are outstanding for home theatre. I miss my Nuforce ref 9's in this application.

I don't understand your first comment, as I don't think anyone is trying to pass off these amps as the end all be all of amplification. You may be commenting on my statements which I stand by. I use Icepower and I love it, my current amps are cheaper then my old ones, 1/10 the weight, sound better, and run cold to the touch.
If you only considered Ray Kimber approved gear as "hi-fi" very few of us would be able to say they had hi-fi systems. -
Russ was just makeing a simple analogy.....don't take it so literaly.
Ice power has it's place in the audio world but most don't consider it in the upper end because of it's limitations.By all means,if ice power floats your boat, rock on bro.I think we will be seeing more and more of these in the future.HT SYSTEM-
