CSi5 Center Placement

Will be getting my CSi5 in soon-- Trying to find the best solution for placement. The table my TV is on is a bench, and barely fits my tv-- so I can't put it there. The TV is just about eye/ear level, so the center speaker can't be placed there.

I heard the speaker can be tilted backwards on the ground and will be able to point at ear level. I think that will be the best idea-- otherwise I can mount it on top of my TV.. or I was looking for a 13" speaker stand. However- the speaker will still be below ear level. Any ideas?

can you place a shelf above the TV and place it on that? if your TV sits close to a rear wall.. it might work.

Whenever I go shopping for audio/video gear stands.. i take measurements with me on my biggest pieces of gear.. i did this when i went shopping for a tv stand a few years ago.. i took the dimensions of the CS400i center channel speaker.. then bought a tv stand that would hold it in the right position.

i know not everyone can do that kind of shopping. with limits of course.. but dang, it sure makes life easier at home once your gear is in it. ;)

Yeah-- I could probably get something to mount on top of the TV... however I'd rather find another way without having to buy something if that is possible.

Or my other idea was to just build a shelf myself.. but it would be ugly looking wood.

I recently got a CSi5 and had a similar problem. I ended up using a stand about 8" high in front of the TV. If you flip the speaker over, it sits pointing upwards. So now the speaker is about 15" off the floor, angled up and the sound is excellent. I did have to boost the sound a little over the fronts to compensate for the lower position, but not a big deal.

I have a DLP tv and the speaker is much too heavy to put on top.

I may have to do the same thing. Which stand did you purchase-- and how much higher did you up the center volume to compensate?

    Thanks!

I used a metal and glass stand I had from a dvd at one time. It was just a good size width wise so I used it. I would have liked it a little higher, but was limited by the remote reader on my tv. I have a Samsung pedestal and the sensor is in the pedestal so I couldn't go up too high.

My stand is about 29" wide and as I said 8" tall. It's also about 6" deep. Wait till you receive the speaker as you'll need a large stand, not a normal one, and you may want to improvise for best fit. Most of the regular center stands were too small for the CSi5.

I compensated with a 2 click louder db for the center sound level than the fronts. And the fronts are about 2 feet further back, so I adjusted the distance as well in the receiver set up.

Here's a picture of what it looks like, probably not the perfect "sound" field, but it works!

Ah gothca. Thanks for the info... I also have a sensor- So I don't want to go right in front of my TV. I'm not sure how I'll work it out. Supposedly the CSi5 comes with some sort of kick stand that allows you to mount it to the top of the TV? I have a DLP, but I don't know if it would be wise mounting it?

It does come with two metal poles which can fit into a holder on the rear to support the speaker at different slopes. The speaker is very heavy and I would not personally put it on my DLP. But maybe you'll feel comfortable doing it. Good luck with whatever you decide. It's a really nice sounding speaker.

In the event you change your mind about buying something, you could buy a wall mountable TV stand that can hold up to a 27’’ TV and install it so the lip of the stand is an inch or so above the TV. You would then place the CSi5 on top of the stand using the kick stand to point the face of the Center to your viewing height. It works out well. Clean install and it appears that the Center is floating on top of the TV. If memory serves, the mounted stand will come out 23’’ from the wall. And can be adjusted to come out a little further but not much.
