Advice on which brand of appliances to go with

My wife and I just closed on our house and we're going to get all new appliances for it. I used to work at HH Gregg (electronics store like CC and Best Buy) and they're going to give me everything at half mark-up without making me buy any sort of warranty. It was hard to distinguish between any of the makes but what really caught my eye was Whirlpool's new promotion for Labor Day. If you buy 2 select appliances you get a $100 Visa gift card. Get 3, $200. Get 4 and you get a $400 Visa gift card. All the Whirlpool appliances that we liked (stainless steel) that qualified for the $400 (since we're buying a fridge, electric stove, above stove microwave and dishwasher) were roughly the same price as the competitors' models. We'll be able to walk out with a 25.3 ft3 side-by-side, a $700 electric stove, a $400 dishwasher and a $250 microwave for $2300 with tax and delivery ($59), plus we'll get the $400 back so we'll essentially be out $1900 for a whole new kitchen lineup in stainless steel and not the newer satina painted look-alike. Oh, and they're gonna do 12 months no interest to boot (might as well take it).
With that, I called my Mom and she had nothing but bad things to say about Whirlpool. My parents have only owned a single Whirlpool product and they have had a few problems with it and Whirlpool was a complete hassle to work with. Their 7 year-old gas range just broke for the second time and now requires a match to light. The coating on the porcelain covers came off and something else went wrong as well.
Anywho, I was just wondering if you guys could all pitch in and let me know which appliance brands you prefer and which ones you dislike and why. We need to make a decision in the next 1-2 days as our house is without appliances!
Thanks!

We recently moved in and purchased in the kitchen; 1. a Kitchen Aid exhuast fan wall mount stainless microwave oven which is top notch. 2. a Kenmore Elite stainless refridgerator, top notch again.
Washer and dryer are Kenmore Elite series.
We love these appliances. The Kenmore Elite & Kitchen Aid appliances are very well made have features out the kazoo and practically scratch your back for you. -
i bought a ceramic top stove and frige by Frigidaire three years ago.. and haven't had any problems.
what sold me on this brand was the best bang for my buck. Both have run flawlessly.
My washer and dryer are Sears brand. I have yearly maintance done on them.. and they have been good for about 8 yrs now.
Hope this helps.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Yeah, those Kitchen Aid appliances did look nice but we're talking another $1300 to step up to that brand with their cheapest models. I'm not sure if we could swing that!

We just bought LG's top of the line 22.5cft Bottom freezer and their top of the line ceramic top/convection stove. We love them mind you they were pretty expensive fridge was around 2K+ and the stove was about the same. We didn't pay nealry that.
For our washer and dryer they are the front loader by whirlpool. Our dish washer came with the house and it was only 1yr so didnt replace it and that too is a WP but the gold series.
from what we found out during our shopping lots of applicances are the same guts inside , the only dif is the shell and some options. -
KitchenAid

Most of your appliances all come from the same factory...Kitchenaid is manufactured by Whirlpool,or visa/versa.
We have all Kitchenaid "Superba" in the kitchen...ten years running, have only replaced an icemaker so far.
Have Whirpool wash/dryer "front loading" built like a Brick Sh!thouse...I don't think you can go wrong with either line. -

True, so if you could get Whirlpool stuff on the cheap I would go for it.

Wowzers MGPK, did you know that from memory or was that from a little internet investigation? Either way, thanks!
Seeing that Whirlpool makes KitchenAid and Jenn-Air it looks as though Whirlpool is the way to go for us. I got an even better deal and talked the salesman down another $85 so at this point it's definitely a no-brainer.
Thanks again, everyone! -
