Detachable are slightly earlier versions. Those aren't trim pots they are power supply rail fuses (2) for each channel. The detachable P/C version is the slightly more desireable version IMO.

thanks heiney9, any problems with these amps,or are they reliable??

Dead reliable if not abused by the prior owner(s)."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. thanks, they seem to be a good buy on the used market. i see anywere from $350--$500. not bad at all. i dont need them, but at that price how can you go wrong. its a cheap way to try something new and see if its an improvment over what you have now

I agree. There was one on Audiogon for $395 recently which is an insane price for a $1200 retail amplifier. Almost pulled the trigger twice just to try it out. I still have my trusty 545 which just hit the 20 year old mark. Thought I'd give the newer Mosfet version a try but it's more of a distraction as I'm looking to move a notch or two above the Adcom series. But the price was attractive and I have no doubt they are great performing amps.

sometimes moving a notch up dosent work out. been there, done that. while we are on the subject what about the 5802 amp. that one seems to be a brute. have you heard anything on them. i could of picked one up for $700. what a good price.

i saw that one on a-gon. that was a good price,a few weeks back

If I can't make either a Pass Labs, Monarchy or Classe work with my SDA's my next top choice is the 5802. It is a brute but it has tons of finesse as well. I've owned Adcom for so long I really want to try something different not nec because it's going to be better, just different. However an NP Alpeh or "X" series is a couple notches better. I'm really looking to go with an Aleph series amp right now. I have great respect for Nelson Pass design's because he gets the simpler is better approach better than anyone.
I look at the guts of some of these other amps and just shake my head at all the "crap" in there. Even my 545 is simple clean and really only has 3 gain stages.

pass labs is good stuff for sure. another amp that seems to be a big brute is the parasound 3500. i just missed getting one on a-gon unless the deal falls through. i think it would drive anything without breaking a sweat. i even hear the rotel 1090 is a tough cookie also. a good review from stereophile,no less. they and be had for about $1,200,not bad. amagine 380 wpc or 700wpc into 4ohms.

dude heiney9,
i just picked up a 5500 for $400. an older one with the detached line cord in mint cond. lets hope that bad bot works as good as it looks when it gets here -
heiney9, i inquired to adcom about the 5500 amps and the detachable line cords. they emailed back saying the detachable line ones are the newer mopdels. they been doing them this way for about 7-8 years now. so differend cords can be used for international markets. now i feel better, the amp i just picked up is newer.
