I have no idea which one sounds better. I have heard rumors that they are essentially the same amp in different casing.

That being said, I find the casing that holds the M4.0t much more pleasing to the eye. They will both give you tons of clean power in a small / light chassis and won't get too hot, either (from my experience).

I think the TFM-55 is newer than the M4.0t. I owned a M4.0t for a while and it did its job admirably. Tons of power.
Stereo Rig: Hales Revelation 3, Musical Fidelity CD-Pre 24, Forte Model 3 amp, Lexicon RT-10 SACD, MMF-5 w/speedbox, Forte Model 2 Phono Pre, Cardas Crosslink, APC H15, URC MX-950, Lovan Stand
Bedroom: Samsung HPR-4252, Toshiba HD-A2, HK 3480, Signal Cable, AQ speaker cable, Totem Dreamcatchers, SVS PB10-NSD, URC MX-850

If you have the option, I would take the lower price. AndyGwis is right with his comments. However, if the prices were equal, it doesn't matter. It's a Carver!
