A Google search will show at least three different ways of hacking the iPhone if you really want to :

    - A solderless hardware hack
    - Software hack
    - Another hardware solution
    - Hack using a TurboSIM card

Hardly worth giving up your car for...
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

All the press he's getting over it makes it more than worth it. Not to mention that kid is working for that company now as a freelance consultant.

Kudos to the boy wizard who cracked it before anyone else could.

If that was the car that he won, I would re-lock the phone and walk away.

He figured out a way for iPhone users to choose their own service provider instead of being bound to AT&T like all Iphone users currently are.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a software hack isn't going to change the fact that the hardware is designed to work on certain frequencies.........right?

Right, the hardware is a GSM phone, so it's only going to work on a GSM network.

Also, depending on how he did it, chances are any firmware updates from Apple will defeat any software hacks.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.
