I have a samsung 50" dlp. It's about 2-1/2 years old. The picture is becoming darker on a weekly basis. Would this be the bulb going bad.

Yep, that would be my first guess. I have a mitsu 62" about the same age and had to replace the bulb not to long ago. First thing to start happening was it seemed to get dark quite fast. Then colors seemed a bit washed. Threw in a new bulb and boom... fresh spanking new picture. :D

If it is the bulb the install is easy.

If not you may have a bad engine.

    See thread here.

I hope it's just the bulb. I have no intentions of waiting months to get my TV back.

Don't know, I haven't had to change it yet.

I have a 65" MITS nearly one year old. How come the retailer sold me a 5 yr warranty that covers the bulb if they burn out so soon.(Now I have my set brightness turned down to the middle level and I average about 3 hours a day.) The retailer quoted a bulb life that translated into several years which I discounted heavily anyway. I guess they won't pay for it till the bulb totally fails. Assuming they do, if there some aftermarket bulb that may not be up to the MITS quality that they may try to foist on me? Thanks.

My wife attempted to clean my 57" Mits DLP by spraying windex all over it then going to town with a paper towel. When i saw her it was too late. Some windex got in between the 2 screens and I had a dark smudge on the bottom right about 10" looking like a Nike swoosh.

After I got through disposing of her body, I called BB, with one day l left on the Mits warranty they had a guy out the next day. He was bemused...asked if someone had tried to clean this recently because it looked like scoring on the outer screen. I kept my mouth shut and said it didn't looked scored to me and the smudge was much larger than the spot he showed me. He called Mits and they denied the claim cuz they only warrant the screens for 30 days. However, being a nice guy he got BB to honor the claim and ordered a new screen...installed the next week for free. Saved me a grand.

I exhumed the body and my wife is much quieter now.

I also ordered a new bulb...mine's seen heavy duty in a year, but still good. BB won't send one until this one fails.

I'm extremely pleased with the DLP picture...prefer it to Plasma or LCD by a wide margin...no rainbows here.
