8Ω amp ≠ 4Ω speaker, 4Ω amp + 8Ω speaker=?

I know, at least with lesser amps, a 4ohm speaker with a 8ohm amp is a big no no.
How about the opposite?
If a amp is rated at 40wpc in 4ohm, would it be a problem to hook up a 8ohm in ceiling speaker that is rated to 100 watts?

Not a problem. The reality is, most of the time, the amp is only outputting a few watts. All that means is that the amp will remain stable when connected to an 8 ohm load, unless the amp is driven into clipping, in which case any amp/speaker combo will have trouble (and your ears as well, for it would be too loud for normal listening) For everyday usage, should work fine.

It's a multi-room McIntosh. I've decided to go another route though.
Thanks for the help."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche
