I thought the nut sack was uglier.engtaz
I love how music can brighten up a bad day. -
Big time!Michael
In the beginning, all knowledge was new!

That's a Paragon!!
You think it's ugly? -
I actually like the Paragon and Khorn.
Now those Gallo's you linked the other day......Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service. -
Legendary JBL.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Now I'd love to hear that thing for sure2 CHANNEL

Do you need one or two for stereo?!?
hehe... I love JBL and I'll bet they sound sweet. -
Thats pretty sweet looking.

You'd be amazed how good it sounds and just how well it's built. It was definitely a statement piece back in its day for JBL and the speaker industry and was designed for the decor of that era. That's quite a high price but they will bring quite a bit.Richard? Who's your favorite Little Rascal? Alfalfa? Or is it........................Spanky?.................................Sinner.

It looks like furniture for sure, a nice BAR that plays music.

Awsome speakers... Part of what makes these so interesting is their design forces you to forget about putting anything between, like say, a TV... These are about as serious of a 2 channel speaker as you can get. (I am aware that with the advent of LCD and Plasma, you can easily hang a TV on the wall, but those did not exist then, nor for a long time after)
It looks pretty nice, although the veneer does not look very real. -

Heres a drawing of where the drivers are located in reference to the cabinent.
Jim I dare you to go to lansing heritage forum and tell Mr.Widget. Zilch.and the rest of the oldtimers there that the paragon is the ugliest speaker you have ever seen.:D
REGARDS SNOWWell, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all -
Fugly for sure, but I would love to hear it.

What is an "overtone reproducer"? Would that be its midrange?
-
That would be the tweeter. That's a ****' of a tweeter in there, too.
-
Ahh, I would have thought the tweeters were the horns in the front. Those horns are pointed sideways enough that I figured it would be only the HF that would reflect properly.
JBL must have put a lot of engineering into this thing! It's way ahead of it's time. -
The big horns are the MR. Look at the diagram on LansingHeritage (also reproduced in a post above).
-
I did. That is why I had my questions.
-
Pioneering design and much ripped-off. Can you say "direct reflecting, and waveguide"?-Ignorance is strength -
-
That'd be a cool diy project to try and replicate something similar. I can see that taking a LOT of work to get it sounding right...
Does it come with the suit? -
-
I bet it would sound great with my HH Scott gear. Talk about a vintage rig...

I'll bet that system makes a great sound image that fills the room. Power it up with some vintage tube Marantz, kickass!

me thinks the mighty klipschorn is one of the best looking speakers ever! sure, they're big, but once you get a pair snuggled back tight in their corners, they don't seem nearly so big. 'course, I also think the belle klipsch is mighty purdy too. the JBL paragon looks like the fabled "three-handled family credenza" of Dr. Seuss fame.THE MAN-CAVE 5.1 CHANNEL A/V RIG
