Do screws count ?

While researching speakers, I noticed something that I did almost subconsciously. I count the screws on the driver's basket flange.

Since most makers don't offer a cutaway and/or driver diagrams, I make assumptions about the drivers capability by the number of screws that are required to keep the thing in the cabinet.

I know I can usually track down the driver to the manufacturer and then get more detail, but I won't go that far if there are only say. . .3 screws in a 5" mid-driver.

Anyone else?

I don't go by the number of screws securing a driver when deciding on a speaker purchase myself.

I think my Thiels have four screws on both the Tweeter and Mid-range drivers.

I did notice on parts express that the pricier tweeters did have more screws. But, usually, I just go by the speaker manufacturer name. As Dave mentioned before I decided to be a smart-****, if I found a good deal on some nice speakers but noticed they only had three screws, I wouldn't pass on them.

AMEN!! If I could get some Variety, that would optimal.

The thing with the screws is that I didn't consciously know it, but I'm prejudiced against low screw count drivers. I must have been harboring this since I was a kid, and I don't know that it means anything anymore with one-piece and cast baskets, but if a 5.5" driver requires 8 screw to hold that sucker in place, then I would think that the motor structure Must have some serious gonads.

Or the basket is flimsy and needs that many screws to keep it from flexing too much.:D

That's probably true. The more rigid the basket, the less screws would be needed to get a good seal.
