RTi12 vs RTA-11t

Received my 5.1 system consisting of RTi12's fronts, CSi-5 center, FXi-5 surrounds and PSW505 sub. RTi-12s boxes took a beating in shipping with some cosmetic damage to both speakers (see damage thread).

I hooked up the RTi-12's along with my 17 year old RTA-11t's to my Yamaha RX-v661 receiver to do A/B comparison. I definitely preferred the RTA-11's. As my son stated they seemed much more "balanced". In pariticular piano and accoustic guitar reproduction seemed be lacking in the RTi-12's. Even though the RTi-12's still sound good, I don't think I will be satisfied in the long run the way they sound now.

My options are:

-Keep the whole new system and hope when I get the seperate high current amp (in the future) that this will "transform" the Rti-12's as I have seen mentioned multiple times on other threads.

-Return the RTi-12's but keep the rest of the new system(CSi-5, FXi-5 and PSW505) and use it with my old RTA-11t's as the fronts. Anybody out there have any experiencing in mixing these series?

-Return the whole new system and start over again. Possibly moving up to the LS series (I know I will absolutely need the high current amp to go with those).

I have 30 days in which I can return the speakers and get a refund although I will have to eat the $200+ shipping costs.

Appreciate any advice/input. Thanks.

    #2 for me as well.

If you look at my signature, ALL of my speakers are mismatched & I think it sounds just fine. You will have an all Polk setup at least.

If anything, once you hook up the amp to the 11T's that might just close the coffin on the RTI's. My 17 yr old RTA 8T's gained new life once I hooked them up to separate amplification that I got in preparation for getting some LSI's.

    That NEVER happened!

    Buy a dedicated amp!

The Rti12's are similar to drive as LSI's

Remember, those are 6 speaker components that have to be pushed at the front of that speaker.

My 12's didn't open up until I got some quality amplification behind them.

Seriously, it made all the difference going from receiver power to dedicated power.

I haven't heard the RTi12s in room nor the RTA11s. I have heard the RTi8 and RTA8 in my house for an extended period. The RTA from top to bottom was much more appealing...with decent power going to both. I liked the RTis, but loved the RTAs.

    Combo rig:

    # 2 is the way to go.
I like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D
