Subwoofer amp in tower died ... so I ordered a SVS

I have a pair of RT1000i's that I quite enjoyed.. well the sub amps decided in the towers decided to take turns crapping out. First it was the right one.. the typical buzzing sound. Ordered a new one from Polk 5 months ago and all was well. This past week the left tower sub amp decided to buzz also. Wonderful.

So thanks to you guys on the forum, instead of getting a simple $300 subwoofer I had to go out and get a SVS 20-39. All this ranting and raving about how great the SVS, I wanted to be one of those cool kids on the block also. **** envy is how Sigmond Freud would put it. I live in a studio. It's the size of a shoe box... seriously. My towers subs were enough to make the neighbors complain. Now I got an SVS coming in the mail. I'm screwed. If I get kicked out of my apt, I'm blaming you guys. If it wasn't for you guys, I wouldn't be timbre matching my speakers, fine tuning the db levels with a Radio Shack sound meter, listening to test tracks, spending a ridiculous amount of hours wiring and rewiring til the wee hours of the morning. And because of that I would like to thank you guys. Knowledge is bliss. And because of you guys, I've learned a whole lot and have more of an understanding and appreciation of audio.:)

I can't wait for this sucka to come in the mail. Eric was the one that took my order... actually I think he was the only one working there.. I called 5 different times today and he was the only one picking up. Anyways, I CANNOT WAIT!!!!! I'm so excited ..... actually I'm kinda glad the amp died.. just an excuse to replace it with something else.:D
Yamaha HTR-5490, Polk RT1000I, cs4000i, CS175 and R10 .... and a soon to be SVS 20-39 PCI

Welcome to the SvS family. Be prepaired for B*tching Neighbors!

    Story time:

I had a buddy pull up in the driveway with his Dully. He left the truck on because his GF was in the truck still while he came in the house. He asked what the H*ll is that. I replied with a Smile "SVS baby". I through on some 36 mafia (Late night tip) and let the old girl sing.
Needless to say one of the neighbors, two houses down on the opposite side of the street was screaming at my Buddy's GF to turn down the Stereo in the truck. Thats when my Buddy's GF yelled right back at her and said it wasn't the truck she heard it was the house thats Rattling! <---- LoL Needless to say that Neighbor wont talk to me any longer! Oh well thats the life of being a SvS owner.
I think the old Lady had Rattling house envy!

Congrats! You're going to love it! After hooking up my SVS I had to go around the room and put little rubber bumpers under all the pictures and wall decorations. No more rattling...just fantastic bass.

Ahhhh... I took delivery tonight!!! :D The doorman called me at work on my cell today and asked me, "what the hell is in that box??!!" I couldn't wait to unwrap my early Christmas gift. Holy cow this thing is HUGE!! It took me about 5 mins to unwrap it, 2 mins to plug in the sub-out and power cord and another 10 mins to dial it in with the SPL meter.. oh yeah, I was working fast.

This thing is so cool to look at. Words can't describe it. It does look like a giant pedestal. With it dialed in, I only have the dial at around 20% and it's already tuned about +5 db. (small studio with a combined total of 650 sq ft... and that includes the kitchen, closet and bathroom). So I haven't had a chance to crank it up since it was already 10:30pm but I didn't manage to throw in a few scenes from Star Wars 3, Matrix 2 and 3 and Lord of the Rings 2 and 3. Even though it's not cranked up like I want it, even at low volumes it sounds nice and full. So this is what I've been missing all this time??!! I should have bought this thing when it first came out!!!! Movies are never going to be the same again. Gun shots now sound like gun shots, Thunder now feels like thunder, Star Wars now sounds like how George Lucas would have wanted. :D It's funny, that I've always been a bass head in my car, (I've had dual 12's or dual 10's in every car that I've owned) but I never took into consideration bass at home. I've rarely listen to music at home so I thought that the subs in my tower would be enough. Now way no how were they enough. And this thing does hit deep. I was playing with the test tones and was able to adjust the frequency to it's lowest and this thing didn't even break a sweat and my couch was vibrating like crazy. And this is coming only from one sub??

Well it's off to bed for me fellas. I'm waking up an hour earlier then normal just so I can play with my new toy.... and wake the neighbors while I'm at it. :)

Congrats on your purchase, you feel the same as I did when I bought my first PB12 Pus/2, I almost lost it when I added the second. Demo the "Darla taps glass" scene on Finding Nemo. Turn up the volume when you do it.

Nothing excites me more than really loooooooow bass. I live in an old farm home built in the 1930's, so when I crank up the sub I hear a bunch of the window panes start rattling. It took a long time to find all the rattles to resolve it.

Ok, my head hurts..literally. After watching scenes from Matrix 1, 2 and 3 for about .. oh i don't know... 25 times repeated times, it's safe to say I love this thing. Funny how I did more research online and found out that a SVS tube is the same (well almost) as a sono tube. I think that'll be my next project in the future.. but then again, I think I have more then enough... for now... mmuuuahhhhhahhahahhahhahahhhaaaahhahaha!!!! :D:D:D:D:D

If you think you had rattle problems... my 20-39CS+ sits next to a china cabinet! I bought a 100 pack of napkins and put them between every freakin' dish in that thing until they stopped making noise!

Now if I can just get my storm windows not to rattle, I'll be doing okay. :D

Try the scene from Spiderman 2 where Doc Ock turns on his evil machine. The lasers sound great, and the sound when the machine cranks up is WAY cool! One of the best LFE scenes I can recall.

My house was built in the late 30's early 40's and had the puttied in single pane double hung windows. Well as soon as I fired up the PB12+2 my wife was outside and she came running in saying that the windows were falling out of the house because they were rattling so much.
Needles to say that got me into a Home Improvement project "replacing windows" but I needed to do that anyway due to this is the last year for getting a tax break on them. So heads up guys if you was going to replace windows in your house do it before Jan. 1st of 08. If you wait that long you wont get your Tax Credits.
