Tweeters and Mid-Woofers for SDA2's

I am looking into getting new speakers for my SDA2's. I know polk has replacements but I was wondering if ther are any aftermarket Tweeters or Mid-Woofers that I could try? The Tweeters are the silver face I believe SL2000's.
Woofers are fine but the tweets are way to harsh for extended listening. And if I need to change both to get a new sound I don't mind trying. Next will be the crossovers. My wife may never see me again.:D
Speaking of the 2A's does any one use stands with them?

Your best bet is to replace the silver coil SL2000's with Polks newer RD0-194 tweeters that are soft domes. Those take care of the nasty 5dB peak at 14kHz. Club Polk members get them for $48 each which includes 2-Day freight (IIRC). Do some searching thru the threads about upgrades i.e. crossovers, etc. That can be a big help.Richard? Thanks for the info.
I have another question. Did they use SL1000 in the original sda2? My tweeters look nothing like regular SL2000. I had them out a few years back, I know they are polk just don't remember the part #.
If they are SL1000's what is the fix? Would it still be the RDO-194? And if they are SL1000's would my woofers be different also? I would think polk would probably use 6600's with them. -
From the attachment, it appears you have the original Peerless tweeter, which is rated as the best tweeter in the SDA/Monitor line of speakers by many. I don't remember that tweeter being harsh at all, although it has been a long time since I listened to speakers that used it. Is it possible you have some age related issues in the cross-over components that might be impacting the sound of the tweeter?DKG999

Well that answers some questions. Maybe I should just dive into the crossovers. I don't want to give up a possible good thing. I am the second owner of these boys and I have loved them that is why I kept them.
They sound good with enough volume but when I get them into a more normal range they get a little sizzly and hissy. It is probably the crossover the more I read other posts. -
If those are the SL1000's then I would also upgrade the tweeters. There's a nice improvement with the new replacement tweeters. I have the RDO tweeter replacement in my SDA-2A'a and it made a big difference.DKG999

Crossovers are a definite change for the better on these speakers....I recommended it. I did it for my SDA 1C's and the SRS2's are next on the list. That and the tweeters (RD0's) and you should be set. Well, there is also upgrading the Interconnect cable, changing out to better terminals, etc, etc.Richard? Who's your favorite Little Rascal? Not sure I would just wondering about it. I am a tinkerer at heart. Not that I want to improve what Polk has done maybe just adjust to my preference in sound. -
i just ordered two of the replacement tweeters from Polk.. it's worth it.
a couple years ago I replaced them in my SRS's. we're talking 8 new tweeters.. costly, but it sounded very, very good. get the replacement tweeters and update the crossovers. that's where I would start.
that's the path I hope to take on a pair of SDA 2A's. i just got.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

What you are hearing is an iritating spike in the 3-4 kilohertz range especially noticable in the vocals. Kills your ears doesn't it? It's not really there, It's the stereo tweeters and the demensional tweeters reasonating together. If you disconect the interconecting cable the speakers are much more pleasant to listen to. But you don't get the three demensional sound. The replacement tweeters are an improvement but the problem is still there. You might want to get in touch with Ben62670. he had what sounded like a good solution to this problem. I haven't done it. I'm reluctant to mess with the crossovers. I tried to equalize the peak out but the problem is much more complex than that. I read the white papers posted womewhere here on the forum by Polk and they mentioned that the early SDA's were unpleasant to listen to. I believe this is why. By the way...there are people here that might not agree with me on this. I'm about to hit the submit reply button and it scares me what some of the responses to this post are going to be.
