Anyone watch John From Cincinnati?

I have had all the episodes on my DVR since the Soprano's stopped. I have now finally been able to watch the show and I am amazed at how much I really like it. I find it a bit like Lost (That being the unexplained John), with the language and fantastic dialogue from Deadwood, meets a surfing family about to implode from self doubt and anger.

I have only watched the first three episodes but I can officially say that anything David Milch does I will watch. NYPD Blue, Deadwood, and now John From Cincinnatti. I think it's his scripts and interaction between characters. Again the F-bombs are in every sentence. And while I find it a little to much it still cannot deter me away from watching this show.

Terrible show. Deadwood never should have been cancelled. Such a crap "ending" to that show with no guarantee the loose ends would be tied up. Only a 50/50 chance.

...and we haven't even mentioned the seriously LAME last episode of the Soprano's, they should make a movie, the actors can all get together and watch it at one of their homes. Lame enough to be the basis for a Hillary Clinton commercial, enough said...

Yeah a 50/50 chance of doing it seems to piss me off also. As with the Sopranos ending with Chase, how do they not expect people to be disapointed. You invest hours on end watching a show, and they leave hanging with no where to turn.

    Sorry for the hijack.

Anyhow, I DVDrd a couple episodes and couldn't get into it at all. Is this one where you need to start from square one? All I saw was a bunch of Deadwood actors in it.

Yeah most definately you have to start with the first episode, otherwise you would really be lost as to what is going on.

I watched every episode. I like the surreal/bizarre, so I liked this show. I'm sure that most will not agree with my views. I was upset..AGAIN...that HBO would end a show without answering the big ?s. It's another Milch series that makes you listen to the dialogue intently or you're lost/dumbfounded, QUICKLY. Very spiritually(not religious) driven.

Yes, there were several actors from Deadwood, plus some very new faces, like a couple of pro surfers. I bet that it'll have a cult following, like that of Firelfly, and the DVD sales will be decent. With this show, HBO can't use the "it's too expensive to produce" excuse. It was definitely not "hi-tech", though I guess that the actors salaries could be high in some instances.

I never enjoyed even 10 minutes of John From Cincinnati. Just my opinion.

What I find funny and I'm included is that we are all looking for the sum up or the answers on these TV shows. We have been looking for these answers since Kennedy and Oswald were killed on TV.

TV has no answers. It's just selling you stuff you don't need or telling you bull **** and fantasy.

That... doesn't even make any sense.

Some shows, just like some movies, books or any other piece of art, are meant to pose a question for the "audience" to figure out. I dont' think anyone's looking for the answers to LIFE when they try to figure out what the Monster is on Lost; they are just enjoying the art form as its meant to be enjoyed - as a MYSTERY. If you don't enjoy it, that's all well and good, but don't make it seem like it's something more than it is and everyone who doesn't think like you is stupid.

I never said anyone was stupid.

I just said that TV isn't required to answer all the questions.

    All what questions....?

Do you read books? When you read a book do you expect the story you're reading to have an ending?

I like that in my TV shows as well.

I was just saying that loose ends are part of reality.

    IMHO TV is not reality.

Sometimes things don't anyways fit into the old pigeon hole.

Yes I read fiction and non fiction books.

The ending in books and TV doesn't mean that all questions are answered.

One of the things I like in a story either on TV or in books is character development, that is how does the person deal with or change while interacting with people, incidents and things.

The ending is up to the author. If I don't like it I don't go back to reading the auther anymore. Unclear endings sometimes make you think differently. The ending is a personnel like or dislike.

You didn't really answer my question.

Where did this comment come from?

Seems out of place in this thread.

Disliking an ending to a show means we're looking for answers to life's big questions...?

I aswered all your questions Demiurge.

I though you didn't like the ending to Deadwood because it left unaswered questions.

The comments came from my head or brain. If you don't understand what I'm saying ask. I don't write well and there is offen confusion is what I write.

Let me try to be clear. Before Kennedy was killed people as a group, IMHO, didn't watch much TV. Most of my friends at this time, I was 14, also had limited TV time because there was only one TV and you watched what the father picked. When Kenndy was killed everyone watched TV for the next 3 days. We were shocked and glued to the TV as we watched Oswald get killed. We all wanted to know WHY this happened. We never found out why but our TV habits changed IMHO from that day on. We all got a good dose of electronic heroin or TV in those three days and the nation and world has never been the same. A similar thing happened on 9/11.

All I'm saying is that in both of those incidents we were looking at TV for answers. Maybe we still are? I don't trust TV for any answers. That's just what I think and I'm not trying to convince anyone to change their mind.

If I go from A to G and skip a few steps I'm sorry. I'm try to be clearer in the future.
