Explain this sub phenomena....I don't understand

I have moved the equipment around (awaiting the Aragon 2005 arrival this evening) and am recalibrating the individual channel levels with the pre/pro's onboard level adjustment and mic. Anyway, I have also been playing with the gain level on the QSC amplifier and the following occurs:

QSC on max gain - pre/pro sets the sub channel at +9
QSC 12 oclock - pre/pro sets sub channel at -1
QSC 9 oclock - pre/pro set sub channel at -8

I should also note that the higher the gain is set on the amp, the louder the sub plays during the set up process. Having said that shouldn't the pre/pro set the channels higher with less gain...this is weird to me? Can anybody explain this occurrence?

Thanks,
Mike

It seems like the pre/pro is doing this in the opposite direction. My Onkyo AVR does this too, but when it says +5db it means the sub is 5db hot, so internally it lowers that channel 5db. To the user it looks like the unit is increasing the sub level when the sub gain is high, and decreasing the sub level when the gain is low, but in reality it does the opposite.

    Weird.

It is like those are measurements and not the adjustments?

Yes, my Onkyo displays the measurements instead of the adjustments. It was a bit confusing at first because I would turn the sub down and get -12db, and then turn the sub up and get +5db. But then I realized what it was doing, just the opposite of what is reported on screen.

The 4 rubber knobby things on the amp go on top, don't they?
