Since I sold my Nuforce ref 9's I have really been missing them for HT duty. They are very fast and dynamic...which is ideal for HT I think. I found a local person selling an Aragon 2005 amplifier. I have been thinking about a multi channel amp for a while in order to relieve the tube amps of this duty. Its specs are 200 x 5 so I know Cathy would give the thumbs up:p .

Does this amp have enough slam, speed, and extension in order for it to be a good HT amp? What would the approximate used value be for this amp....not the original owner, he has owned it for a year.

    A very respectible amp. Dan D'Agostino designed a lot of Aragon amps. Dan is the founder of Krell. I say go for it if you can get a good deal. Aragon ceased to exist a few years ago, and at 1 time their new amps were on 40% closeout. Keep that in mind if you are trying to negotiate.

    The seller posted his add yesterday and has had 5 responses on Canuck Audio Mart. That is a lot for up here. I talked to him this evening and he is going to drop it off with me tomorrow to try for 24 hours. He is asking 1000.00 Cdn....seems pretty fair as that is about what a used Rotel I think 1075 ( the 5 channel one) goes for up here.

    We'll see I guess.

    Okay, so I ended up buying this amplifier. It seems adequate, I guess. It is not as quick, nor dynamic as my Nuforce ref 9's were and doesn't seem to extend as high but it will do. I had to come up with a solution as the tubes for movie and TV watching was starting to really annoy me. Nice to just be able to turn things on and watch tv when I want, rather than having to warm the amps up, have the Modwright power on, etc., what a waste of tube life. I also noticed if I didn't let the tube amps properly discharge at shut down before turning everything else off I would get either a midrange spit, or a bass thump during warm up the next time I turned them on.

    On the plus side this amp is incredibly quiet. It would actually be a pretty good music amp as it is rather smooth and grainless. It is in absolutely perfect cosmetic condition. You could put this thinkg back in its box and put it on the shelf in order to sell it as new it looks so good. I figured when I want something more serious that I wouldn't lose much as he has gotten a lot of responses on it and the price seems good.

    Ya just had to say it twice didn't ya? My 8.02s are with their new owner, funny enough I bought one of my first icepower amps off of him, we just keep trading gear back and forth.

    Just messin J. How would those Nuforces sound on the Dues? Probably more than enough juice, but not 200, so maybe not so good....:o
