I am new to the forum and this is my first post.

I was looking for opinions on bookshelf polk speakers. I have the R30 (two way floorstanders) and I have got them to sound very good with swapping of various cables and amps. One of my favorite features of polk speakers is the imaging and of course the price.

I am putting together a retro system base of a NAD integrated amp (3020 or similar), Dual 506 turntable, NAD cdp and now deciding on the speakers. Obviously this is a budget system so I dont think LSIs are an option.

I am looking for something a little on the warm side or with more bloom in the midrange.

Thanks in advance to all the polk enthusiast lending a hand.

I have read good things about the rti25 and the rt5.

I would look into Polk vintage, maybe the 7's or 5jr's
    Monitor 7b's front
    Monitor 4's surround
Frankinpolk Center (2 mw6503's with peerless tweeter)
    M10's back surround
    Hafler-200 driving patio Daytons
    Tempest-X 15" DIY sub w/ Rythmik 350A plate amp
Dayton 12" DVC w/ Rythmik 350a plate amp
    Harman/Kardon AVR-635
    Oppo 981hd
    Denon upconvert DVD player
    Jennings Research (vintage and rare)
    Mit RPTV WS-55513
    Tosh HD-XA1
    B&K AV5000

Monitor 5's would be my choice.

Cant get much warmer and bloomy mids than 5's or 7's

Have you listened to Monitor 5's powered correctly. Just try Alison Krauss and US.

If your asking me Eng, I am comparing them to some of the current Polk speakers. 5's and 7's are very flat natural sounding (which is what I like). Unlike some speakers that sound as though they were Eq'd in a "V" (high bass and trebble, little mids).

My Hafler does a great job with my 7's.

The reason I asked is I am hearing lots of bass coming from them. I agree about the mids being natural. The 8's on the 5's vs the 5jr to me makes a great difference in bass sound.
    Nice description jakem.

I appreciate the direction you guys are guiding me.

I would like to know what you think about the RT5?

I have heard that is sounds great with tubes but I am not ready to play with tube gear yet, so I am going with the warmest sounding amps I know of (NAD).

    Thanks again

I would take a look at the ACI XL's. They have a definite richness to the sound with a bloom in the midrange.

I have been told that Monitor Audio speakers sound quite warm.

But yeah, the polk monitor 5s or 7s would be awsome with vintage NAD.

The RT series are anything but "warm"... they are kindof cold in the mids and WAY too bright on the highs, but the rolloff of the vintage NAD might even things out... but vintage NAD diserves vintage speakers.
