RTi12s and Bass

So i have my amps now and when playing music i have tryed seting the 12s to large and turning the sub off. This turnes the crossover off as it should however the LFE HRZ is still ajustable as is the LFE gain which is set to zero. I have been leaving the hrz at 80 but i was trying it all over the place last night and still had very little Bass coming out of the 12s. The midds and highs sounded as they shoud but having my ear right against the speaker the bass was just barely there. I just want to here what the 12s can do by themselves but im not coming up with much. Just so you know in surround every thing is set to small and at the 80 and up.The SVS is 80 and down using the Sonys crossover. So when the fronts are set to large, xover is off but this LFE HRZ is still lit and ajustable not that i could tell it was making any kind of diffrence turning it 200to 40. So what do you guys think? These 12s should be prety ok as far as bass goes right? Im just not cming up with much and wonder if its a setting issue. The jumpers are in and i have 14 gage from the amps to the bottom of the jumpers.:(

Set your 12s to large, sub = none...you should hear a difference.

what Ron said.. if you don't hear a difference.. you got some kind of setting problem OR the jumpers are not in place.

The woofers on our 12's do ALOT of dancing when set-up this way...You should'nt be able to put your ear anywhere close when they are crankin :D

The RTi12's in my system put out some amazing bass.

If you don't see woofer excursion, or hear any low frequencies it may as well be the problems mentioned earlier or you have your wires mixed up backwards.

There is also the remote possibility the woofers aren't hooked up, but to have that in TWO speakers is pretty high odds.

Many years ago I had a system that had a pair of JBL L100s as the main speakers to which I added a pair of large Pioneer floor standing speakers of some long forgotten model number. My bass response completely disappeared. Long story short- I had to reverse the polarization of the Pioneers to get any audible bass. Oddly enough I had run two pairs of speakers before -my amp would drive two sets of speakers- and had never had this happen before. Speaker placement didn't help. I was bothered by the fact the Pioneers were reverse phased and it looked like the woofers weren't moving correctly outwards. I had been told that this reverse polarity didn't really matter but it bugged me because I was worried about harming the speaker. I sold them.

My RTi 12s have good bass but i still added a sub (PSW1000) and am very happy with the results.

Polk XRT12 XM Satellite Radio Receiver
2 Carver TFM 35x Power Amps
Harmon Kardon T45 Turntable w\ Benz MC 20E Phono Cartridge
Vincent Phono Preamp (not enough gain in the Parasound Phono In)
Cambridge Audio 640C V2 CD Player
    Nakamichi BX300 Cassette Deck

    2 Polk PSW 1000 Subwoofers

JBL speakers seem to be reverse polarity a lot of the time, if not as a rule. straight from the MFR. this applies to old speakers, such as D-120, and newer ones, such as a pair of mid-fi "monitors" (how many speakers carry this designation?) i have in the basement. i have to reverse their polarity for good performance with the sub they are used with. the pioneers were more than likely wired "correct".

I haven’t felt like I have gotten the bass out or my RTI12's that I should.

Best bass I get was driving the bottom 3 7 inch woofers each by a separate outlaw 2200 200w monoblock. I preamped to my Onkyo amp which ran the top (100w) and then used the outs on that to the outlaws. I raised the gain on the fronts to +9 on my Onky avr. I then used the volume knob on the Onkyo amp to lower the tops to match the fronts. This way, the Outlaws were at +9 full time. I could finally see those bottoms really moving.

Right now I run the whole speaker on one Outlaw and even really turned up, I don’t see them woofers moving like they should.

This is one reason why I have been looking for a 400 watt 2 channel amp for them.

    That's strange.

When I dumped the two Soundcraftsmen's and replaced them with two Sony ES amps I noticed a big difference. I couldn't believe my ears it was so sonically different. My fiance even noticed.

    Secondly....

I bought a third Sony ES amp (all of them same model number) and Biamped my front sound stage so top half gets 200wpc and bottom half of speaker gets 200wpc which is a nice sound.

Even prior to the biamp, running just the 200WPC into the Rti12's the drivers get up and move, and I do get solid low frequency response even 30 feet away from the speakers in my house.

Something sounds fishy here with setup, wiring, something.

I guess what I am getting at is there is a disconnect somewhere with the folks not getting the response out of the system

Are there people near you that are on this board with RTi12's that can demo their system for you? Perhaps you ARE getting the true response out of the units, but expecting too much (is this possible)
