Anyone have any words on Crown amps. I've been checking out their page and they look like they give big affordable power. Any help would be appreciated.

I like the 400+ watt per channel models but they have a ton of different models. I would be looking to drive my rti12's with them:

These are all pro amps and are very powerful but will likely fall well short of the refinement you would get from a good audiophile amp.But they would be great subwoofer amps.

    Great subwoofer amps.

Way to bright and nasty sounding for main speakers in a house setup.

Great for cut through, ear piercing highs for a pro audio rig --- allows for massive bass and alot of clarity. Just really*** hard to listen to for anything else.

Pro Audio amps, insert brand here, you will get the above reply. They are what they are. They are POWER, absolutely no reserve, no current, made to run full volume, with loads and loads of power. They are affordable high power amps. But they are no where close to fidelity.

However, I love my XTi1000 for my subwoofers. Absolutely phenominal sounding subwoofer amp with alooot of features. Plugged it up to my RT55 I have laying around and left the room in a hurry.

It's a general audiophile consensous that "pro" gear while giving pretty good bang for the buck just doesn't sound as good and consumer home audio. As has been stated they maek great subwoofer amps but if you are looking for a really good 2ch system, IMO "pro" gear is not the way to go.

Try it out and see if it works for you.

I just can’t afford the HT amps I see at that kind of power right now. Maybe I’ll just buy 2 more Outlaw monoblocks and biamp the Rti12's with 4 total.

    Thanks for the good advice!

    +1

They are great for subwoofers in an HT environment. In fact, the local cinemas in my area mostly use Crown XTi or QSC PLX amps.

I agree with all the above. If you need more power get the Outlaws.

Take a look at the mid to late '70 D series amplifiers. They are a bit harsh in 1.5k an up if you use them full range, but they have massive amounts of reserve power for low end (mono per sub in a bi amp). I back heiney9's statement on the new amps. Great power,no range.
I've felt a Crown D-150,in mono, send 16Hz without failing, to an 18" Gauss in a tuned 14cuft cabinet. But made a pair Celestions books sound like ****. Take it from there.
