Polk To Offer Upgraded SurroundBar Speaker
Designed to match a 50-inch flat panel TV, the new SurroundBar50 from Polk incorporates the manufacturer's SDA technology to offer what it promotes as "surround sound from a single speaker." When used with a multi-channel receiver, the bar creates a surround effect without the need for rear satellite speakers.
"I wanted to be able to integrate all the latest entertainment technology into the new house we are building but I didn't want to let the technology start running our lives in the process," Polk Audio co-founder Matthew Polk said. "Discussions with architects, electronic systems contractors, retailers and home owners have revealed that many other people are also looking for a solution to this exact same problem. These experiences inspired me to develop the SurroundBar."
This latest SurroundBar measures 51 inches across, 4-1/2 inches high and is just over five inches deep. Its titanium or black finished aluminum housing includes nine Neodymium mid/bass drivers, three dome tweeters and a crossover system. It can be wall mounted above or below the TV with the included bracket or can be installed on a shelf in the same locations.
In addition to using the same SDA surround technology as the original SurroundBar, the new model adds SDA image enhancing for the front left and right channels for a more clear stereo soundfield. New drivers and an upgraded crossover design offer better bass performance from the larger cabinet.
The SurroundBar50 works with any surround receiver and includes a color-coded, multichannel speaker cable for setup. The unit is designed to pair with Polk's compact PSW111 powered subwoofer in large room installations.
Available starting in October, the SurroundBar 50 will carry an MSRP of $1,099.95.
