my junky sony dvd player finally died.

its getting the classic "no disc" error. the laser is gone according to a sony tech.
what is a solid dvd player ?

    The choices for a dvd player are endless. You seem to like Denon gear so look at a Denon universal player. They are well thought of here.

    The Denon 3910 seems to be a solid player.

    Maybe you should put a few insulting offers in on DVD players and see if you have better luck.

    Never seen Oppo, but it gets great reviews.

    Maybe its time to consider a junky Sony Blu-Ray player. ;)
