Recently reformatted my C Drive --- and installed Opera over Firefox.

So far I am very impressed. Lots of cool features Firefox didnt have and seems to run better and be more stable.

Alot better than the last version I used years ago.

Cool stuff.

    Nice.

One question: Why? Most XP systems don't need to be reformatted to solve a problem. (I learned this back in my IT job)

Basically when I got my laptop, I didnt update it - I thought I did, but I didnt. And it basically went into decomission, I couldnt even log on.

So I reformatted the C drive (all my documents are on the D drive) --- and installed the updates.

There was 86 updates I didnt install. Thing runs flawless now.

You should be able to install the updates at any point.

Sounds like something else went wrong and took the OS down with it.

I have used both Opera and Firefox, they only problems I have is Opera has problems with displaying content of some website and crashes. I got tired of that real quick.

I use Opera pretty much exclusively. I've used it on Windows 98SE, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003 Server (32-bit and 64-bit) and Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit). So far it has crashed less than IE for me and the only times it does crash is if there is a weird plug-in not design for Opera and it tries to use it anyway (which usually seems to work).

As for the content displaying issues... well that isn't Opera's fault but it does happen from time to time. Opera was one of the first web browsers to pass the ACID2 test (meaning it's very standards compliant) and it uses the HTML/XHTML/CSS/JS standards exceptionally well. Unfortunately, most of our web developers: develop just for IE, don't know anything about web standards, or have archaic code that no one wants to re-write. This puts all web browser developers in a very difficult position especially those that work on alternative browsers like Opera, Firefox and Safari/Konquerer. They have to basically emulate the way IE displays websites that are not made correctly. Because of this, CSS2 has been out since around 1997 but hasn't been able to be put into use since as recently as a few years ago.

Sorry, I can rant about this subject for quite a while :)

I love Opera. Especially the cool right click/left click mouse options that take the place of the forward and back funtions. Very handy and addictive.

No crashes for me on Vista....Yet
