tape !
For extended playback, the new tape cartridges have (get a pen and paper and write this down) one side, Labeled "A", and a second side, Labeled "B".
God bless RCA Victor: I may not understand this "A" and "B" thing, but it sounds like they may be onto something !

I've heard some 15 ips R2R half track recordings (in both mono and stereo) that would stun you with the sound quality. These recordings typically go for big money as do the Grundig half track players. No pops, hiss or digital brightness to deal with.Carl

Same here....high quality R2R media is far more interesting than vinyl.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

The big problem with tape compared to vinyl, CD, HDD, or RAM for that matter, is that it's a linear medium, rather than random access.
Sonically, it's very hard to beat. -
Just think: In another 20 years we'll be going all nostalgic for CD'sThere is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin

I love RTR too. Had one quite a while ago, actually it was my dads. I recorded albums, CD's (well) as well as using microphones for live recordings (my friend is a guitar player) it did everything very well.

Never saw one of those tapes before. The first cassette tape! Man, I need to get me one of those pipes (last scene) so I can have that look while listening.
