Well, LFM-1 EX is up and running and sounds great. As I was hoping the aesthetics go wonderfully with my ebony Polk LSi speakers (with the glossy black top).

(If anyone wants pictures of the LSi 9's next to the Outlaw let me know.)

The Oliphant Charge in Return of The King and the final scene of The Host at 1:43:10 had some sub 20hz bass and it was certainly very loud and very impressive.

I played around a little bit between max extension and max output, but not enough to tell a strong difference, in part because in max extension it gets louder than I would ever want it in my rather small room (13x10x8).

I don't have much to compare it to as my last sub was a cheap end 8" Velodyne that got down to 37hz (though I do use a Buttkicker LFE that goes down to 5hz... but that is very different). The differences have been pretty astounding, for example the fight scenes in 300 with the giant you can really feel the punches and blows. Great stuff.

The ButtKicker has gotten me used to really feeling deep bass (at least on my... butt), but this is still a huuuge improvement as now I can feel it everywhere and experience heavy room compression and that punch-in-the-chest feeling. I have yet to do any proper setup with SPL meter and calibration disc, so it may improve a bit later down the road.

    Pics please.

You said you did not find the extention filter to be that dramatic?

On my Rythmik amp the extention is very dramatic with my SVS. I can over excurse it very easily.

I will play with it again after I get used to the sound in maximum extention. It is such an upgrade that both modes just sound awesome at this point.

Check out Lanion's Game Room on system showcase.... will have pics up on there in an hour or two.

How do you change the max extension on your sub? I looked at a picture of the Outlaw LFM-1 EX and I didn't see anymore ajustment there than I have on my sub and I cant find anything about an extension filter on the outlaw website. I would really like to learn this trick.

Should be an adjustable filter switch from 25 to 18hz on the amp coupled with a port bung to lower the tuning.

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)

I can't remember which mode is which but the LFM-1 EX comes with a plug to cover up on of the two outputs underneath plus you need to flip a switch. Or was it the other way around? Sorry, I'm not at home at the moment.

I like it. Currently, I have mine on the setting with the lower bass (less boomy).

I've been thinking about going with 2 of these subs. I keep hearing good things about them! What do you think? For HT should I stack them or maybe locate 1 in the front of the listeners and 1 in the back?

Ed told me that the LFM EX is basically a clone (performance wise) of the Hsu VTF3.2 which is an excellent sub...so duals will be awesome however you set the up. Makes sense since Hsu consulted or designed (depending on who you talk to).

the LFM-1 EX has about 1,000 more cubic inches of space than the 3mk2, so I am not sure how accurate that is. The LFM-1 plus might be more more similar, though it is 800 cubic inches less than the vtf3mk2. they are all fairly similar designs though. The EX goes very low! (not much roll off at 15hz in my room).

Make sure you play with the phase control. Most people ignore it, but it can make a big difference. If you have a SPL meter, adjust the phase to get the loudest response from the sub, and you're done!

I picked up an SMS-1 as well, so it is quite well calibrated now. But My LSi speakers don't have the smoothest response, and even with a 80hz crossover they create a peak at around 50hz. I may have to wait until I get a room with *some* placement options before everything is perfect... but at least that won't require buying more equipment!
