Took me 32 years to figure out what I wanted to do with myself.

I applied at a techincal college here in my area.

They just called saying I finances are set up and I start in January. I am so excited.

Computer/Electronics Engineering. 18 months fo the techincians certification and 6 months for A+ and/or C++ certification if I want to persue the computers.

Then I can always go back and get a bachelor's degree.

Maybe now I can do what I love, and do it with a certification.

    Thanks.

It not a big college. Louisiana Technical College.

But it will get me certified. It is a big step for my family and I.

I have been dismantling electronics since I could walk (stereos, vcr's, tape decks, my old Atariand computers). Then learned enough to put them back together.

Now I can take that knowlege and do something with it.

The good thing about this class is the fact that it is 2 in 1. Electronics and computers.

So which ever road I take I will be certified in both..

An hour and a half every day monday through friday.

Boss will just have to put up with it...lol...nah, he was very understanding./

Congrats and good luck! Don't get discouraged if the 1st couple of weeks in class seem "weird". I took 8 years off and had a heck of a time getting back into the swing of class/studying (and the oddness of being around a bunch of 19yo kids.)

    Hard work and studying FTW!!!

    Yeah, I hear ya.

Another thing is (I'm not bragging or anything), but I have so much "self taught" information in my head, some from you guys and some from rebuilding crossover and servicing every computer in my neborhood. i just hope i dont get bored and frustrated. They dont offer and entrence exam, I wish they would. That could probably knock off 6 months of classes.

Electronics has become either very specialized, or useless.
The only good thing about it, it gives you a leg up on some of the hardware
troubleshooting. Fixing stuff is a dead art. Troubleshoot to the card, module,or
box, and replace. It amazes me to see some software guru's get stumped by some simple
physical problem. A bad patch cable will give them fits for hours before they find it.

Software is where it's at, paywise. Soak it up and apply it real world as soon as possible.

That was my exact thoughts, Sucks. Here in south Louisiana, the oilfield buisness is where the electronics pay is. The circuit boards and walls of electronics that control flow and platform operations are in much need of maintenance and egineering.

From there it could lead me to anywhere.

    I'm really excited.
