No, the emotion engine in a nutshell is for PS2 playback. The 60 gb fully supports this as the newer 80g does not. This was a way to "cheapen" it up, be happy that you have the 60g.

Ahh, ok. I moved from the 360 to the ps3, so I don't have any left over ps2 games anyway.

Good to know though, thx Mike!

Thanks for the heads-up, I used the $150 Chase/Sony CC offer, got hit by TX sales taxes but still $390 for PS3 60GB is a good deal. Now I can use my Amazon cashback for controllers and games... :)

Now I'm set for BR and HD-DVD so format was is of no concern.

The 80GB version uses the same software emulation that Europe uses to play 2000+ legacy games. Although I think the 60GB version is a great deal since you basically get the guts of a ps2 included for free and at a discount to the 80GB, the emotion engine is increasingly redundant and needed to be cut eventually.

Yep, uses the same software that's all.

Which in turn has an impact on the number of PS2 titles that will be backwards compatible.

So cut the emotion engine and add another 20 gb?

If it leaves them room for another price cut before Christmas, I'd be for it. But if we're back up to $599 after the 60GB ones go, then I'd agree it was a pretty empty move. I'm thinking it probably means more room for another price cut. And the incompatibility is more likely the obscure titles. Firmware updates have added the great majority of played titles and can always do more.

So let me get this straight if I buy the PS3 60gb from sonystyle with their credit card I can get it for $499 and get a $150 credit, currently free shipping, 12 months to pay it off, plus they are doing extra points offers on top of the free 5 blurays?

So it would be $349 shipped for a PS3 with 5 blurays a year to pay it off, plus points?

Good deal, isn't it? I got hit with $41 sales tax but it was still a no-brainer. I have now NHL'07 and wireless controller lined up from Amazon with the gift cards that I saved on this deal. If you need a BR player or PS3 that's a hard deal to beat even with the new CC you have to get.

Tax for me is around $30 but the 8pt per $1 spent should close to make up for it, as well as FatWallet offers 3% back for sony purchases, so another $20 or so.

How hard is it to get the card? I have gotten store cards but don't have to long of a credit history (~4yrs).

Not that hard to get the card I believe.
You could also use the points to get free remote.

Add a game and remote to your cart and you should have enough reward points to get a free controller with their 8points for every dollar spend on Sony card.
    500 x 8 = 4000 pts
    60 x 8 = 480 pts
    25 x 8 = 200 pts
Total is 4680 pts, good enough for a Wireless Remote Controller.

This is a deal, but you're still spending $499.00 in the long run, but you are getting more, plus the 5 free movies.
