I currently have Polk bookshelves. After a few paychecks, I'm thinking about investing in a new pair of Polk towers. I say Polk because I don't really have the money for Def Tech (my next goal) at the moment. Which towers would you recommend?
Trey (5:22:24 AM): my Taylos have copper phase plugs
Trey (5:22:26 AM): they shiney
Destiney (5:22:39 AM): ahaha

Is this for music or is this for home theater? That makes a big difference in what towers you would want.

wait for the new RtiA series to get released in sept and go hear them. The new drivers and tweeters should give the LSI series a run for its money

Eh, I dont know about that...

Since the RTiA series pretty much uses the same drivers.

The fact that Polk still dosnt plan to redesign the LSi series, even after the release of the new RT series speaks volumes.

Very doubtful. Have you ever seriously heard the LSi series? They might be a bit improved over the older RTi series but the new line is mostly cosmetic. Why mess with a successful product (sound wise). Personally everytime they have changed the RTi (series) with new drivers, etc. they didn't always sound better.

It still remains a tremendous value no matter what, but they will never seriously compete with the LSi series if both are run with proper equipment.

Girl, As noted by the above posters, the Rti series of speakers is being closed out this month. If you are interested in this line go check them out as the prices are excellent and Polk is rarely discounted.

Seems like now is a really good time to get a current RTi tower. Do you have a Frys near you? I would go try to listen to one if you can. Take pair home to do a demo with your gear in your room. The Frys near me has the worst setups for listening to audio I've ever heard. Their return policy should allow you to take them home to demo.

Tweeter has a great take home and test policy... that is how I tested the RTi4s... I didn't like them, but tweeter was very polite even when I was bringing them back... and they were very honest with me when they told me that they did not carry the sound I was looking for at the price of the RTi4. Tweeter would be a great place to buy LSi because of their trade-up deal. You could start with 7s and trade up to 9s or 15s later on with the huge discount.

Well see that's the thing. Even if I did take it home to do a test run, I don't plan on having my current setup for long. Right now I have a Yamaha CD player and a Yamaha receiver. I plan on probably going for an Odyssey amp and pre-amp or an Integrated. I'll probably do that before I invest in new speakers so I can make sure everything meshes well.

I'm also digging the Tyler Acoustic Mini Rears.

As far as speakers go, I think I've decided to go with Tyler bookshelves. I don't have my own place yet (college student), so I have limited room and probably not enough for towers.

That yamaha receiver is going to need a warmer speaker to sound the best... Check out reviews and look for warm and easy to drive speakers. Sensitivity around 90db ought to do very well.

and now for something completely different:

Bob designed the mass loaded TQWT's I use in the living room.

Cain & Cain Abbys would be similar, and similarly worthy of consideration, but they're not folded, which might be a problem in some decor schemes :-)

Terry Cain has passed away, but I believe someone has taken over production of at least the Abbys.

I chose the Polk LSi15s (4 all the way around) and LSiC over the DefTech powered subs. DefTech, although a fine speaker, had too much boom for me.
Do you hear that buzzing noise?

Trey, you are not allowed to use the words "horny" and "randy," no matter if you are quoting them from the International Man of Mystery.

And you saying you found the perfect someone---with a walnut finish--

that just brings back memories of Russ and his port holes.
