SVS PC-Ultra 13

I'm certainly an "amateur" here so consider the source....our new SVS PC-Ultra 13 arrived on Thursday. It replaced an SVS SB 12-plus. Got it all hooked up this weekend and tried it out. All I can say is WOW!!!

I haven't calibrated it yet with an SPL meter. Just connected it and dialed it in by ear. My new RTi 10s and CSi5 are due to be delivered in two days and I'll spend some time calibrating it then.

I'm such a newbie to audio and HT that I can't comment on headroom, extension, etc, but so far I'm thrilled with it. Watched Pirates of the Caribbean last night and the walls shook! I had previously gone around the room and placed rubber bumpers under all the pictures and wall decorations to try to keep everything from rattling and shaking...but to no avail!

This thing's gonna be fun!

The PB13-Ultra is in a class by itself. It's in a different league. From the early reports I have been getting about this sub from forum members. It matches, or beats the JL Audio Fathom 113 output.

    Here is what TomV stated.

    Hi guys,

Based on JL's own measurements of the F113...a single PB13Ultra will match or exceed its output capabilities. Both will have exceptional *SQ*. The advantage for the JL is its smaller size and auto-EQ. The SVS is less than half the price and has some cool features of its own (PEQ, Room comp, ect).

It is...weighs in @ 105lbs naked. Since the 16-46+ weighs in at ~ 80lbs...that's alot of driver.

As an owner of a PC-Ultra, i'm a little jealous. I love the hell out of my PCU though!

After you get your whole system up and going, chime back in and give some updates how everything blends along with the destruction done to your home.

Just hooked up the RTi10s and the CSi5. Here are a couple more pictures; one that shows the front stage and one that shows the rear left surround. I'm a happy camper right now and am going to go back in and watch a movie.

Very nice set-up. Looks very similar to mine. How tight is that CSi5 in there? I cant really tell by the picture. Looks like it just barely fits.

BTW, anybody looking for this tv stand, I have one in the For Sale in the Classifieds. :D

The CSi5 really isn't as tight in the stand as it looks. I have two black rubber door stops underneath it to give it a slight tilt up but otherwise it would have a couple of inches clearance on top.

Be sure to tweak the Phase control and see if it affects the sound. Basically adjust it to get the highest volume form your sub. Many people set it at 0 degrees and never touch it, but it can have an enormous impact. A RS SPL meter can be used and it only takes a few minutes.

Next year or even later this year, there will probably be something arguably better in it's price range, but for now, it's about as good as it gets. SVS has hit a homerun with this release...pretty much creaming the $3000 Fathom, the DD18, ACI Maestro and Deftech Trinity for HT and SQ. The recent measurements done by AVTalk and Craig Chase's "amateur" evaluation score have made this sub the new darling.
