The Simpsons Movie

Incredible.

Now, I consider myself a huge Simpsons fan. I've been watching it from the beginning. The show has grown with me. I've gone from seeing myself as Bart to now seeing myself as taking on the spirit of Homer as I approach fatherhood. Point being, the Simpsons is one of my favorite pasttimes and hobbies, and this movie is something that I have hoped for for a very long time.

My expectations for the movie were not low, nor high. I think the show has been much worse in its second half of life compared to the first. It hit its low for me in 2000/1999. Pretty much unwatchable. So, that being said, since the movie was released past the shows prime, I wasn't sure what to expect.

The movie impressed early and often. I was laughing out loud pretty much continually for the duration of the movie. The trailers on TV did the movie no justice. Even the Spider Pig part they show, which looked dumb on TV, was hilarious in the movie once they complete that bit. The pace of the movie was perfect, leaving you wanting more at the end.

One thing that I really wanted from the movie was for the writers to use the movie format to do things that they can't do on network TV. I'll say no more than that they did. It was not obnoxious abuse of the opportunity, just the right amount of salty language and content.

Well worth the price of admission. I have not purchased a DVD in over a year, but I will certainly preorder this one.

Simply put, its the best Simpsons I've ever watched.

I agree, maybe not as vehemently, but I thought it was fantastic. Laughed almost the whole way through.

Would have liked to see a bit more of the ancillary characters, as that is arguably the show's real strength, but still... can't complain. I actually went to a theater for this one, so you KNOW it was good :)
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Even better than the episode where Homer prays to God/waffle on the ceiling only to eat it and declare...

    "UMMM... Sacrilicious."

Can't wait to see the flick. You're right... the show peaked around seasons 4-6. The humor was just so much more random.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

To me, it felt like the movie was written around that time. It has plenty of well timed random humor. You'll love it.

You summarized my thoughts exactly there...first movie I've seen in the theatre in at least a year, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I did feel a little bit old going to see it though. It was me, my wife and two of our friends waiting in line to get into the theatre to get the best seat ... with a bunch of other 10-18 year old kids!

Saw it tonight and it was funny enough but I was a little disappointed after all the hype. Some good laughs though.

I thought it was great, much less over the top then the recent episodes. No large amount of swearing or blood like the recent simpsons, and no random crap added in like family guy (I like family guy but not when watching the simpsons).
