Ok Finally. I am going to pull the trigger as my new (incoming) Pioneer Elite receiver has a phono stage (which actualy has received favorable mention believe it or not  ). I am leaning toward the Pro-ject because.....well...because I can get it in pretty colors to match my HT. :o (I am a girl, dammit!:D ) but if the Rega is a substantially better player I will re-think this.

Also ...it's going to be about 12 feet from the Pre so I guess I will just need a couple of loooooong interconnects and that's it, right?

Heard good things about both of them.....I think either one will do just fine.

12' IS a long set of IC's but, yeah, hook up to the phono stage and you are A-OK.

+1 on 12 foot cables. You don't want to put 12 foot of cables between your TT and your Pioneer Receiver. I also believe both of these tables come with short cable which is not changeable. You have to mod the table to put RCA output jacks on it to use any other cable. Your best bet would be to either put the table close to your AVR or use dedicated phono stage.

Yeah.... the Pro-ject's cable is "permanently" connected to the table. You would need an extension cable of some sort....

I can't speak for the other table, but on the Rega, it sure does have a short cable that is not changeable w/o modding. Approx. 2 and 1/2 feet. Doesn't matter to me, because they will be upgraded anyway. The stock connectors are Rat Shack in quality and even though the P1 is their entry level player, I was still a little surprised.

I will be performing the mod soon, so if I run into a particular snag you should know about, I'll let you know.

Added note, the Rega has a Ortofon cart.

Hmmm....fixed cables eh....? I don't have room in the front to add the TT though - nor on the sides as my room is narrow. I got it! I need a new house!:D

I've mentioned this before in other threads, but just in case you didn't catch it.

You might also consider the Music Hall MMF-2.1. Unlike the other two, it has a tonearm with adjustable VTA.

Just a heads up. Let us know what you decide. Enjoy!

I couldn't add to my turntable cable length without causing all sorts of sound quality issues. One possibility is to buy an outboard phono preamp and put within the reach of the TT leads then use a long interconnect from there to the aux input of your receiver. (They can be much longer because the signal is not so small).

I feel for you, I needed to make mine longer because of the same reason. Not being able to add to the cart output cable is somewhat an unknown to me as I don't know what others have done. Didn't work for me though.

I would be very leary of increasing the length of that phono cable. Every phono cable or audio lead, if you will, I have ever purchased and I've purchased some pretty high end audio leads (SME's is the most recent) are always short. I think there is more to this than just saving money on the manufacturers end. I believe if there is a cable or system susceptable to noise and interferences it would be the phono to preamp link. The SME audio lead comes with directions to make a 360 degree loop just before the tonearm pillar to make sure that any vibrations or motor noise or vibration is trapped in the loop rather than continuing up to the tonearm.

Imagine how much vibration and interference a 12' cable would pick up and then generate or amplify more noise.

These are not cold hard facts, just some thinking out loud on my part.

Yea, I have tapped on my phono cables and it sounds just like tapping on the top of the head shell. Very microphonic.

I looked into getting a table, and I am going to wait a little until I can afford something in the area of the Rega P9....That doesn't mean I can't start collecting vinyl! hehehe....Someday I will not be in the suck anymore....
