Using two of the 15" versions of the drivers.

I want a tuning of like.. 10hz... (if not lower?)

It just has to be usable from 30-10hz... no real fidelity needed.

Box size - no limits. Ported preferably.

Will most likely use a Crown XTi4000 bridged to power it and use its crossover functions and so forth.

I dont have the nessicary tools to design this... so looking for some help! :)

    I would tune it in the 14-15 hz range.A tuning of 10hz means the port will not be contributing much to the output.

    Go to HT Guide DIY Forum and see what drivers people are using. they will have proven designs over there. If you want subsonic bass I believe there is a new 18" driver out.

    I want to build a box, no sonotube...

    If we could keep it around 30" deep.. 22" wide and height variable...

    6-7 cu ft is totally possible.

    10 hz tuning preferable...

    I'd like to use those TC sounds drivers -- I like the fact it does 56mm xmax both ways and handles alot of power. So it should do good real low.

    15hz tuning is fine too, with room gain it would hit significantly lower.

    Just a heads up,but I would check with TC for the availability of the drivers you are interested in.It appears they are undergoing some big changes and may not be supplying the DIY market much longer.

    Also...

    I wouldnt mind building dual subs -- alot more possibilities with that....

    Two seperate enclosures, identical size, tuned the same, etc etc

    Also would keep enclosure size down... and I could run them on two channel of amp...

    box/sonotube, it doesn't matter. you just need internal volume and port length to design a sub, that thread does that.

    6-7 cubic feet probably isn't big enough to tune very low.

    It says the rec. enclosure ported is 19hz tuning..

    What size port does it use?

    I like that driver, 22mm xmax one way, 800 watts, 18" driver...

    Wouldnt mind using that.

    Without simulating it I don't know for sure. it would almost have to be 6 or 8 inch port diameter for a driver that size.

    Do some research at HT guide about the 18" driver if you're serious. I don't know if it's been used a whole lot. Sound Splinter drivers are also popular at HT guide and would be a good choice also.

    I emailed Mach Audio and asked what dimensions for the box and port width and length I would need for an 18hz tuning...

    OK, build two boxes similar to the new VMPS VLAs. Imagine two gigantic towers with 4 15" drivers each, plus a couple of passive radiators. Wow.

    I think I have it figured out - maybe... assuming all my info is correct.

    I entered the info from the subwoofer site into a box builder configuration...

    The box program recomended for that woofer and my desired tuning a 215 liter enclosure, which came out to 7.62 cu ft

    I then went to this site -

    Entered in random numbers... 22" w, 31.125 h, 23.25" d to get to 7.6 cu ft

    Then I went to their port calculator, for my desired tuning

    To get a 18hz tune, I would need a 4" port, 10.75" deep

    Does this sound correct?

    I'm just insane... ok - I guess thats the same? haha

    The larger subwoofer has the tone and accuracy above 30hz...

    But Brian is a liar on bass response. The larger subwoofer TANKS at 30hz...

    I have a 15db bump at 20hz to get my larger flat to 20hz... and the only reason I can do that is i have tons of power going to it.

    Nope, 4 inch port is WAY too small for a driver that size. You're looking at 6-8 inch ports. 8 would be the better choice.

    and with an 18 inch driver you're going to have to brace the living **** out of a box sub, thus making it bigger and bigger. You'd be better off building a sonosub with a driver that big.

    This is the type of box construction you're looking at for a high excursion, large driver

    you get that bump because your room is so small. power has nothing to do with it. You'd have to take it out into an open field with no boundaries to test true response.

    I want to get this done for around... 1300ish dollars.

    Amp + two subs will be around a grand... + wood, post, and ports - I assume around 300, give or take...

    Thats the same price as the PB 12/2+ --- HOWEVER, I am going to make "two" subs basically... and have much more flexibility with crossovers/eqing and so forth. And the TC2000 driver should be better than the SVS driver. More power handling, more excursion. Etc etc

    I have decided that whichever manufacture helps me design one first wins!

    These are really good for tuning low...size wise as well as braced extremely well...

    I just picked up 2 15" TC-3000's......They increased their price 3 fold ..then lowered them again today...looks like the 15" TC-2000's are gone but the 12's are still avail.
