Replacing RTi4 with FXi3 will be beneficial to surround sounds? more SQ, more highs? Or just not necessity?
I have RTi4 for front and CSi3 center. My room is L-shape and mostly for HT. Thanks for any suggestions.

You don't mean to replace your front RTi4 with FXi3, do you?

FXi3 will not give you better SQ, but better diffused surround effect - a good thing for HT in most cases.

I meant FXi3 to replace for side surround RTi4. My other front RTi4 will stay. The final would be RTi4 - Front, CSi3 - Center, FXi3 - Side Surround if I decided to replace.
That's what I thought so, while RTi4 is directional and FXi3 is not. If it is not much difference, I would stick with RTi4. One thing I can't make up my mind is I have never heard FXi3 and if I buy it, it is not refundable. Thanks.

If you have a good use for a spare pair of RTi4, then go and get FXi3.
The difference will probably not be dramatic, though.

IMHO, RTi4 is a better speaker then FXi3, but FXi3 is a better surround speaker, if you know what I mean. FXi3 is specifically designed for on-wall placement, and looks good there, too - a bit wider than a bookshelf, but not as deep. Also being able to do di- or bi-pole is a neat trick.

    My .02 ...

Go with the FXi3; no comparison, IMO.

I bought a (used) pair of FX500i to replace a pair of R15, and there is

without doubt a huge difference in SQ.

RTi4's are fine speakers, to be sure, but the diffuse surround effect you get

with a dedicated surround speaker is worth the coin.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

 RTi line prices are dropping like crazy everywhere - thanks, MKZ, for that other of your threads. Now I understand where you are comming from.

Just let's be realistic here. R15 to FX500i is a night and day difference (over 3.5 fold in MSRP alone). I felt the same way when I switched from three small Onkyo bookshelfs to a pair of FXi3. RTi4 -> FXi3 is just a feature set upgrade.

OK, but isn't that what we're talking about; features? My original post was meant to shed a little light on the differences between bookshelf speakers and dedicated surround speakers, if you have the option of getting one or the other.
Sure, RTi prices are falling. Yes, you can use RTi4 s for surround duty. Do they sound good? I'm sure they do. I just happen to be happier with my FXs',
is all. Whatever floats yer boat. And they (FXi3) must, since you admit to owning them :D.

    FWIW, my R15's cost $89, the FX500i's $225 - worth every penny.
I also replaced a perfectly good PSW450 with an SVS PB12-NSD/2, but lunacy runs in the family. :)

Don't get me wrong, Polrbehr, I love my FXi surrounds - see my post #4 here ( I thought qouting myself is just way out of line :-) )

I am not sure I would have bought them again, had I already had a propper set of matching speakers there.

All I am suggesting is that for MKZ, though, the "wow factor" that you and I saw will not be quite the same.

Thanks everyone of you for suggestions. Grab FXi3 now or after RTiA came out? Do you guys think the price will go down more? Thanks.
