Got our 300 hd dvd today and we christened the toshiba az2 hd dvd player. my sons and i watched it, I for the first time. The picture quality is the best I've seen yet on our system.
This is a highly styleized movie and incredibly violent but what else could it be. We thoroughly enjoyed the story and the epic battle. Incredible cinematography and the movie was well acted but there wasn't much in the way of character development. We haven't watched the other catagories on the disc so I can't comment on those. If you are looking for a chick flic forget this one.
3 1/2 stars over 5 as a Warrior tome.

No disrespect Wing. I just don't envision snuggling with my sweetheart in a theater setting with 300 playing on the screen is all. It's about choice when we all choose a movie for romantic reasons and 300 would not be my choice. Not a gender thing for me because it would be my discomfort for her not an inability to accept ladies enjoying this film. I guess having been married for 34 years has allowed me to learn that there are some films she just doesn't seek out and my biases are based on that.

Are you kidding? Do you have any idea what effect looking at ripped, buffed, half naked guys for two hours can have on a woman?:D

Hey wing, I understand your logic but ya gotta try and see it from my side. 57 years old white hair and not so buff any more. I'm not needing pharmaceutical assitance yet but as Clint said so eloquently...." A man's gotta know his limitations".

    I watched it Tuesday night...

I went in with extremely high expectations... and well... it was a top notch SOUNDING movie, but I dunno... I was a little let down. The fight scenes were second to none, and the cinematography was incredible.. but it just wasn't a HUGE hit here... Hard to say it exactly. I will own it for the Sound alone, best I've ever heard on a DVD.

    I'd give it a solid 3.5 outta 5, maybe a 4 outta 5 max.

Worthy of a demo, and well... maybe an occasional watching. Just lacked emotion I felt. But whatever.

It was a fun movie and I'll leave it at that! :D

i watched it in dolbyhd, and man, this movie sounds sick. just a very enveloping sounding disc, everything sounds like they took their sweet time eq'ing even the most minute sounds. the video fell short on my expectations, if only slightly. def. looked better than in the theaters, but im not too fond of the weird effect that makes it look a bit grainy. that's my only caveat though. great disc, worthy of show-off.

I think that grainy look is the Frank Miller effect. Some folks were turned off by the movie Sin City due to the way it was shot and presented in black & white.
