Well, finally I´ve received the AVR after a long waiting (It comes via maritime). Was an upgrade from a Sony STR-DE975 and was a little skeptical about the difference, but I must say that exist a big difference (Luckily).
The Denon has almost 20 lbs more, mine is silver and is beautiful. If it is allowed me, compared to the Sony, the Denon´s whole package including (DSP´s, EQ modes and formats) are perfectly usables. With my previous AVR, the (30 dsp´s, lots of settings, etc) the only aceptable was Cinema Studio A for DD DTS and Stereo for music. Never could listen in multichannel format from 2 channel source. My ears don´t resist that for more than 2 minutes. In short, for music was almost unuseful.
Now, I can enjoy almost every mode and setting. The 5/7 channel is useful and sweet to listen. I figure the Denon is very sensitive to the quality of the source too. In DD is brilliant, powerful, and accurate. Very impressive!
The tuner is very solid, the Sony could tune 12 stations and this receives 36!!
Overall is an excellent upgrade. But now a few questions to you, folks:
1- Does anyone use the manual EQ? Any advice to tweak this out? I think the sound in manual is more neutral. But are 8 bands and its very difficult to tune?
2- The image is not so good, how can I improve it? I think the speaker level need to be adjusting, but how? Now the FR is 0.5 the FL 1.5 and sub is about 6 db. The distance from sweet spot is 8´to L R and 9´to sub. I really need advice on this setting.
3- Can I set the speaker level one time and nevermore change that. One fits all???
And the LAST: When I connect my cable box to composite in the AVR (Just has yellow jack) and try to upconvert, the image starts to flick and B/W. So I need to go without upconvert and monitor through composite. The disavantage is run another cable to TV and switch to that input every time I want to watch TV. Any help?
Enough for today and thanks for all the learning.
Cheers
