I am looking for an inexpesnive pre so I can experiment with a stereo amp I picked up. I am using an integrated for the pre now, but would like to try a pure pre. I don't need a phono section. Maybe $250 or less. Thanks. PM me if you have sometnhing. Mike

I have a very inexpensive Pre you could have for $50 + shipping.

It's an early 1990's Kenwood KC-207. Actually works pretty well, but defnitely not hi-fi.

Does have remote capability (universals work well), phono, and some other cool features.

Let me know. If you want something a little higher end but still inexpensive, I think B&K Pro-10 is a good one that can be found for $150 - $200 used.

Thanks, AG. I'll check out the B&K as I would like to do something that I might end up wanting to keep awhile. Was checking out the NAD 162, which is still a little pricey and the Rotel 1070, which seems to vary.

I am gearing up to sell my Nakamichi CA-5 in the not to distant future. It has a phono stage and a power strip that is controlled by the power button on the pre. I got it from Mark < 6-7 months ago. It is within your budget also.
I like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D

    Let's review. . .

    $50 Kenwood POS
    $100 Adcom 400
    $150 Adcom 555

Someone needs to get in here with their best $200 pre offering, then maybe a $250 one. We'll eventually have the whole range covered.

And knowing me, i'll just get frustrated with all the choices and go buy something new for $1,000....well, maybe not this month. I have found a used Adcom GFP 565 that seems like a good choice for about $200. Oh and a Rotel RC 971 (no phono section which I would not use and like saving the expense). Oh (2), I also like this NAD 1700 model that is pre and tuner, but is about 18-19 yrs old. Not sure if "vintage" is wise or not. Thanks for offers and other advice.

I got the Adcom 565...cost, good reviews....very good condition....and it sounds excellent with the NAD amp and LSi9s. Much easier purchase than the two cars I had to get for my kids this week! What an ordeal. Do not try buying a nice used car the week before school starts.

Somebody's just got a heart stopping car insurance bill!

2 cars is cheaper than 1 car + therapy for 2 kids that feel betrayed by their parents.

Unless they are twins and or hurting financially, I think you need to go two cars. Or, give them the choice (one $15K car, or two $7.5K cars).

damn.. i'm thinking more like a two $800 cars... ;):D

my first car was a POS, so do I think alot of other's first cars were too. ;)

Just a hypothetical number I pulled out of my arse. With many here and elsewhere buying thousands of dollars in audio gear, I didn't think it would be that offensive :)

Then again, I live in North Dallas / Plano where everyone is uber materialistic. Probably skewed my sense of reality a bit. . . but this forum continually skews it even further when we start talking about $500 speaker cables and such.
