The Focal has better midbass but is much brighter than the SR's. And the SR's are much smoother overall sounding.

Both are excellent speakers tho. Cant really go wrong with either. Go give them a listen and see which you like best. I prefer the smooth, more natural sound of the Polks.

    Never heard of Sax.

Still, 100 watts would be just fine.

That don't necessarily mean anything. Take a look at the specs of many lower end speakers, even wider than that, but they don't sound good.

Most SR owners cross them at about 70 or higher anyway, making the whole issue irrelevant. Read earlier posts about SR'S getting muddy below 60hz anyway. I cross my K2p at 73, and their midbass kicks **** and its got heart stopping punch - better than the SR's according to several owners, including some on this forum.

I sure would like to hear them SR tweeters though!

Its not just the Focal tweets that make them bright but the mids as well. The mids will be playing well into the 2.5 KHz range and thats where you can get a lot of the "brassiness" that I dont like.

The Focals do have more midbass punch but not that much more and certainly not enough to give up the sweet and smooth midrange.

At world finals last year, one of the judges - a guy that works for CA&E magazine - actually wrote "wow!" on my scoresheet for midrange. IMO, Id rather have that.

If you want some punch from some very smooth sounding components, take a look at some Rainbow Profi Kicks.

Sounds like I will continue on with my SR's since I have been very pleased with there sound and I have never been a fan of bright harsh tweets.

I am doing an install in a 2005 Mercury Mountaineer. I am not sure what to do abour a source in there since it is set up for a Double Din or I should say a Double Din would look sweet with the layout of the center.

I know this thread is old but would like to give my own inputs just so others can get as much info as possible.

I have owned the Focal Utopia 165w, which back at the time were a step above the k2p's. They were one of the best sounding components I have heard. Up until recently I got hold of the Polk SR6500 and I would say I would pick these over the Utopias any day. The reason is because the Utopias are too bright for my likings. The Sr's have a more natural yet soothing/mellow feel to them, which equal very warm sounding. Don't get me wrong, Focals are one of the best companies out there for highend car audio, but I just love the Polk Sr's more :D
