Hello all! Newbie to the forum. I'm building a house and looking to install in-ceiling surround speakers in our family room. The room is approx. 15'W X 16'L with 9' ceilings. The back of the room is open to the dinette & kitchen, that's why I'm going with the in-ceiling speakers. I currently have RT800i towers, CS400i center channel, f/x500i and PSW450

I can't decide on going with the TC80i or the TC60i. Which do you think will match my current speakers the best? Should I go with the larger speakers due to the higher ceiling height? Anyone have any suggestions.

I would be inclined to stay with the 6 1/2" drivers all around - imho, go for the TC60i.

BYW, do you really want a 7.1 in that room size? Looks to me, depending on your source, you have a pretty good setup already..

Thanks. I can't use the surrounds I currently have because there won't be wall space for them. Nows the time to put them in the ceiling, so I might as well put in 4 surrounds. It might be a little overkill. :)

Any recommendations on spacing? I was going to put the L & R on the sides of the seating area and the two back speakers equally spaced behind the couch.

I would go with the TC80i. I have the 60's and while nice I wish I had gone with the 80's instead especially with high ceilings.

Thanks for the insight. Do you also have high ceilings? I keep jumping back and forth. I can get the 80s for only $15 more each speaker. I think this is what I'm leaning towards.

I ended up getting the TC80is. I found a pretty good deal on them and couldn't pass. $175 each. Now I just have to wait 2 months to install them.....

Here's what my layout is going to look like. I'm having trouble deciding where to place the surround back speakers. Take a look and let me know what you think. I opting for the closer option but not sure if I should move them back. Any thoughts?

Well I went to install my pre-construction brackets this afternoon. Turns out there is a HVAC duct running in the joist where I was going to place the surround back speakers. So it looks like I'd have to move them back. Anyone think they would be positioned too far behind the seating area?

I think that should work fine. Make sure your receiver allows you to set a delay for each channel independently of the other channels.

Sorry for dropping off the planet Zamps. To answer your question no I don't have high ceilings, they are 8 feet.

Thanks for the tip. I currently don't have a 7.1 receiver but will make sure to make note of that. A new receiver is next on the list to purchase. :D
