If you have SACD capability, you are doing yourself a disservice by not owning this. Yes, it is THAT much better than any other version out there...to include the remastered vinyl. I could go on about this and that but the short answer is it's the best version available and I have about all of them.

I haven't been that blown away in awhile...

I don't know why I haven't gotten this one already as I have the vinyl and CD version. I think Brothers in Arms was one of the earliest CD's I bought...and I still have that scratched up copy from my high school years! (along with a new one)

I have this SACD and I can only listen to it in 2 channel stereo....and it blows away my domestic Warner CD and my imported SMB-remastered Vertigo CD.

I think I have every format available in this album and I agree with Troy 100% with no reservations. SACD is simply outstanding for this album.

What a pleasure it is to listen too.

Has anyone compared the sacd to dvd-a? I haven't heard the sacd version, but the dvd-a disc is fantastic.

Thanks Troy. If it tops the 180 gm than that is really saying something. Now I need it.

The SACD version is excellent! I think it was remixed a little as I noticed a small difference in some of the songs. Anyone else notice any differences?

Yeah, I noticed differences too, but I believe that is due to the fact the music isn't as compressed as what it was on traditional 2 channel CD. Someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I believe this is the benefit of SACD so you hear it as the band intended it to sound, when originally recorded.

A lot of CD's have the total waveform where they clip the extreme high wave signal\peaks, so they can bring out the main waves at a higher level. It kind of deadpans the audio so it sounds pretty flat. SACD tend to be a little more critical about preserving the entire sound wave.

I love how music can brighten up a bad day.

I read somewhere, a long time ago, that the multi-channel mix was worked on for 3 months.

Michael Bishop, the chief engineer at Telarc, is using the Brothers in Arms SACD as surround playback reference. That says a lot considering Telarc's own SACD quality.
