I believe this will be a first-look at these speakers, around these parts. Note in the pics below, how these are not like the average bear:

* trapezoidal cabinet design
* note the twin-roll fabric surround on the main driver, in contrast to the ubiquitous rubber surrounds
* the main driver is a 10" dual-concentric with the tweeter horn-loaded into the throat of the woofer (the thing on the top is a super tweeter that only handles signal above 16kHz). All 3 drivers are positionally time-aligned.
* super tweeter thingy on top is carved out of solid metal block
* black velvet covering much of the front surface - this also helps damp reflections from the super tweeter

Check out the connection panel (bill is for size reference :D):

    DSC_0186.JPG

Those fat pink-ish cables are the STOCK jumpers - "Van Den Hul MC The Wind Mk I Hybrid Halogen" is what they've got printed on them, whatever the hell that means. Looks to be 11 gauge. Jumper terminations are WBT "Pure Copper" and the binding posts are also WBT. Clearly the highest quality stock connections I've seen yet.

    Very nice, congrats!

My Tannoys needed about 40 hours break in time before sounding their best. Their out of the box sound was terrible, I almost returned them, ha.

I don't think I would have been able to figure out the rear panel without that $20 bill. You don't have any $100's? pffft. It's a very nice loudspeaker.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    Freakin' gorgeous, dude!!!

I like how you've arranged the acoustic panels.

C'mon, give up the details. So how do they sound? What's the room size, BTW?

Very nice. I like those jumpers. Why can't more companies go this route: spend a few extra bucks for details that instill confidence in the product?

On their sound, as per my PM to George:

I'm anticipating that the Dimensions are going to be totally awesome once I get them dialed in with my tube amps. They sound like an Eyris DC3 on steroids - greatly increased bass impact & dynamics, to go along with enhancing the strengths of the Eyris DC3: incredibly coherent and well integrated from top to bottom, great tone and musicality, and super fast transients.

These are almost certainly the best speakers I've owned so far. Not quite as much bass impact & depth of the Legacy, but still very satisfying, unlike the Taylo monitors which really suffer in this area. It's more than made up for in the super clean mids and killer imaging/expansive soundstage, which even exceeds that of the incredible Taylos, IMO. Also should drive home the point about how well integrated the whole bass/mids/highs spectrum is. Sounds much more like a really good headphone (1-driver) in this respect.

The room is approximately 12'x14' with a height of 9'. They're currently set up along the 12' wall.

Yes, I am. I haven't bought anything audio since August, so that's a really good sign for me :D

Unfortunately I've been super busy at my new job (ditched the corporate software engineering gig for a startup software company in October), so speaker listening time has been cut to a minimum, and all my gear is stuck in a less-than-acoustically-optimal room, but they're still a pleasure to look at and listen to. It is actually quite a sight, with the Tannoys, tube gear, Sota TT, stacks of vinyl, and a new 24" iMac all in 12'x14' :D

I've become a pretty big fan of the way Tannoy does things, their sense of aesthetics and engineering (not that I understand that much about acoustic engineering). So, I expect that if I ever cash in big, either a Tannoy Prestige series speaker or the custom behemoth the local audio shop is designing would be in my future. Definitely, dual-concentric driver in a BIG cabinet is my current chosen audio religion. On to that custom behemoth - definitely the BEST I've ever heard, beats out the Thiel CS7.2, each speaker uses what looks like a 10" fiber dual concentric (but not Tannoy built), two 10" metal drivers, four 10" rear-firing passive radiators, and a supertweet. Big cabinets. Of course retail is expected to be $35K /pr, but worth it if you have the money. It was driven by some 22 Watt vintage 1960's tubes amps that had been refurbished (IIRC they said they were "Ikos" (sp?)), that's all you need to drive 'em to bliss (this made an orchestra come to full-powered LIFE on a very budget NAD CD player), no mega $$$$$ amps/electronics need apply :)

I know they do! Both the Sensys DC and Eyris DC lines come pretty damn close to the Dimension sound, for a lot less money. Luckily I got these heavily discounted, used. As long as you've got the dual-concentric, it's going to be something good.

First heard my SOTA TT hooked up to the Sensys bookshelves, and they rocked. Still miss the walnut Eyris DC3's I sold a couple years back :(

The thing I love about Tannoy Dual Concentrics is how revealing they are. Every little tweak you make with the system from amps to cables are made obvious in the sound.;)

Personally, I think Tannoy needs more distributors and better brand recognization.

The Prestige line are massive. But the Dimensions are a whole lot prettier. :D

Totally agree; as I understand it they've got tons of brand recognition in Britain & Japan (maybe just in the very high-end of Japan, though), but are severely under-represented here in the US. My office just happens to be a block away from one of the few US dealers.

That local dealer is soon getting in some Glenairs from the prestige line, I am both looking forward to and fearing an audition of those...

Bill, I've briefly heard the DC1's in the shop but haven't spent a lot of time with them. On first glance they sounded very good; fit right into their place in the line I'd say.

Sorry about the pics being down guys. I guess the photo storage space I had at head-fi suddenly became a subscription thing :p

I thought it weird that Tannoy doesn't include the super tweeters on the prestige line as standard. Wish I could get a chance to hear one of those. :)

The Sensys DC1's are amazing bookshelfs. Couple them with a decent sub to get those extra lows.
