I do not have the 500.1, but have used that function on several other amps. If you listen to a wide variety of music, as I do, you will encounter some music recorded with alot of bass and some on the other end of the spectrum. I have found that the subwoofer level control on a HU is often not wide enough to accomodate both ends of the spectrum (of the HU's Ive used, Pioneer is the one exception I have found). So I ended up using it when I needed a little more energy in the bass region.

I have a c500.1 and I use my bass gain remote. Like blackmax said, its not really necessary if you have a good deck, but I still use mine from time to time.

I believe the Alpine CDA-7998, and CDA-9835 qualify as good HU's. As well as the Eclipse CD8455, and CD7000. I still found myself having to use it with these units :). That is one thing I do miss about the Pioneer units....the wide adjustment mode for the sub.

Of all those, Eclipse gives you the narowest margin, but the SQ is worth it :D.

Thanks for the response guys like blackmax I listen to a variety of music so I think I will hook it up. The deck im using is a Kenwood excelon dpx-701 which is a low end unit. I got this HU mainly for the DD size and it has some cool features like USB, im sure the SQ is much better with the alpine and eclipse and not to mention the price I paid for it $200. The sub level control seems ok but I think I would like the control at my fingertips.

I'm the same way. I listen to pretty much every genre of music, and some songs sounds good with very little bass, other songs are the exact opposite.

The good thing about the remote is you can just grab it and twist on the fly as needed, and keep your eyes on the road. You don't need to go pushing through menus to get to the right adjustment, staring at the LCD screen.

That little gizmo might save yer life one day.

Yes, it works well. Just don't run more than two 500.1's off of one remote.

Why not? I was thinking of doing that using a splitter.

Thats the main reason I was going to hook it up jack it gets annoying flipping threw the menus just to adjust the sub level.
