Thanks again for the replies. black magic, yes, I believe it to be motorized. Pressing and holding the eject button should open and close face plate. I did just happen to come accross somthing that might be related to this. The unit has a default function that allows the detachable front panel to open automatically however, the face auto open feature can be turned off by hitting the Multi-Control button. Seems like a theft deterent feature. Will try this and post results. Thanks again for the replys, I appreciate it.

eloplayspolo, I know you mentioned that you used to have a DEH-P69000UB. How did you go about opening/using the CD function? I did read the user manual and it states to press the SOURCE button to select source (XM Tuner, SIRIUS, Tuner, Built -in CD player, USB etc.) I didn't notice CD Player come up in the display. The manual also states that this occurs when no disc or magizine is in player. The manual isn't too detailed in explaining instructions. To change the clock time it just states to push the MULTI-CHANNEL button then left or right. Doesn't state where I have to be to use that function for the clock. I'll continue reading and experimenting however, if you remember anything that may help, I'd appreciate it. Thanks again.

i think to set the clock u need to turn it off first and then hold the "menu" button? i know for sure that it needs to be powered off, just not sure about which button.2013 Toyota Prius

This is the link for the DEH-P6900UB unit:

eloplayspolo, your idea about trying to set the clock with the power off worked! While the unit was powered off, I pressed and held the Multi-Function button and the clock option appeared. What's frustrating is the instructions don't specify to have power off to set the clock (SECTION 2 PAGE 30 in Operation Manual). As for opening the unit, Ibelieve it to be defective, but will research a little further.
Thanks again for your time and help! -
Well I uncovered the problem. The factory brackets were too tightly screwed into the sides of the unit, which I guess compressed the motorized faceplate, causing it not to expand fully. All works fine now.
