Using 6.1 setup on a 7.1 receiver?

I am thinking of getting a CSi40 center to replace my CS1 since I just picked up a pair of Rti70s for my fronts. I was thinking about doing the 6.1 setup, where I have a center in the back between the rears, instead of trying to get rid of my CS1, but I have a 7.1 receiver (the Harman Kardon AVR-247).

My question is, is it possible to set up a 6.1 system (with fronts, rears, and a center in both the front and the rear) on a 7.1 receiver? How exactly would I do it? What would I hook up my rear center to, since I don't have an output for a rear center on the back of the HK 247?

Thanks in advance!

The rear channels are the same signal so just pick one and hook it up to the center channel.

Agreed. Also, your HK should have an OSD (onscreen display) to set it up for one rear/back channel instead of 2 rear/back channels.

hi there :) ill let you like i said at the latest on monday but other than that i can explain how to set it up. the 6th channel will be matrixed for most movies but if they have a 6.1 track it will be real (some exceptions depending on if its discrete*) but none the less it creates a more realistic movie experience ive found. my denon receiver has an option in the settings to make the rear 6/7th channels only send one output rather than 1 to each terminal. check your manual if you must.

Cool, I'll have to check with my manual to find out how that works for my receiver when I get home this weekend.

Now there is another option that I am considering. I have the chance to pick up a pair of R15s really cheap, so I could actually have 7.1 surround sound instead of the 6.1. I'm assuming that 7.1 is better, but thought I would ask:

What would be better, a 6.1 setup with a CS1 in the rear or a 7.1 setup with a pair of R15s for side rears (and therefore no CS1)?
