I am now at the point in my audio journey that I need to get rid of the T.V. and all associated gear and start looking at a dedicated audio rack for my listening room. Not the kind that you screw your gear into, but the kind that presents great eye candy and functionality for audio reproduction.

Isolation is a factor. Tell me, what have you come across that you would suggest?

Pre
Amp....possibly two
CDP
SACDP
LPP

That's what I have to put on the rack. Now and in the future. Pic's, please. I want pic's! Only reason being is I have to please my wife, who is an interior designer.

All price ranges will do. TXS!

I can't wait to read this thread.

EDIT: OH...I thought you meant components. I have a 5th grade education so I'm not very smart. I had my rack custom built by www.adonacorporation.com

Paul is a fixture on Audiogon and a weird but real cool guy to deal with.

I'd lose the wife and go with 2X12s and concrete blocks. Both moves leave alot more room in the budget for good gear.

Oh, yeah.....then you'd have isolation too.;)

Call me confused, but who sells the tv,and audio gear, and looks for a rack before knowing what the heck is going in it?Yeah,a cd player,a pre,an amp, yada yada.......you do know they are all not one size fits all, right??
Get the gear first,or if you know what you want,at least you'll have the size to match up to a rack.

DangerBoy - I agree :D Its really sad to see high end gear on a Target' brand rack. It isn't that expensive, especially if your at that level anyways. The only rack issue I've run into in my travels is depth but open racks don't usually have that problem.

maybe his wife wants to decorate around the rack, then get the audio gear..

if you end up with a Bose Lifestyle system.. you get what you deserve. ;)

Didn't mean to mislead. I am NOT looking for gear, I am looking for a rack system to hold my gear. The list of components is above.

Thanks for the link Mark. Those are about the same cost as the other one's I have been looking at. Damn, racks can get expensive. I saw a beautiful rack today that was made by Triangle, 1 of 12 made in that design. WOW, did that thing look great. Even with my discount, I couldn't budge the price lower than 2G for the $3500.00 stand.

I went ahead and purchased a Elite RIO 509 in Topaz instead. No real isolation, but the eye candy is through the roof and will allow minimal sound disruption and excellent cooling because of the design. I now have the choice, or a choice rather, to isolate each platform individually.

Price no problem? Look at my system pic, that's a salamander triple 20. About $1140 bucks, but beautiful. It's built like a tank, and highly customizable; more shelves can be added later, solid glass or mesh door panels/side panels, choice of wood finish (mine is cherry) the list goes on and on. It's 65" wide, about 28" deep IIRC. It's the LAST piece of audio furniture you'll ever need:

I got a sweet deal on a BDI stand when Tweeter was liquidating. It's too tall, but looks way better than what I had my gear in before.

I think it's a BDI Axis 8022, retailed for like $899. The one fuzzy pic in my showcase doesn't show it off well. It's a beauty, tho. If only it was shorter I'd be in heaven.

Thinking of consolidating my gear down a level each and making room for a 19" lcd on the top shelf. I think that would look cool.

Steve, that's nice. I was entertaining the thought of that one as well. I opted not to get it 'cause I'm too lazy to bend over when putting in LP's and CD's. Plus, I kinda wanted something high to go with the Carver Amazings.

Sections can be added to one column to make it taller. See the salamander website, the number of options you can get is mind-boggling. They are beautiful, high WAF racks. They also keep your livingroom looking elegant rather than like a college dorm room, IMO.

Now that I've got the 50" DLP on it, it looks alot better, I need an updated pic.

No kidding. spent close to three hours looking at different possibilities of combos. Our tastes are similar. I was looking at the cherry finish, and glass fronts. I love how they did the vent work on those things. Pretty clever. Wouldn't know it was there unless you knew about it. Cool stuff.

Mine is high. check out my fuzzy pic to see if you like the styling. BDI sells online all over the place and has other finishes, too.

I take it that those shelves are adj. every inch or so?

Please note, a quote from a previous post....."I went ahead and purchased a Elite RIO 509 in Topaz instead.", so, I'm not really looking anymore. All the racks that I really want are between 3-5K. Had to cool it down on the cost a little.

    post a pic!

I totally missed that you had bought something. I usually read the first couple responses then scroll to the bottom and add my 2 cents, whether applicable or not :)

Hope you're enjoying your rack/stand. $3-5K sounds insane. I thought the $899 retail on my stand was pretty silly for a fairly ordinary (but great looking) stand, but to each his/her own.

Forgot to answer this one. Yes, they are adjustable with some screw in holders (2 on front, 2 on back). Pain to move the gear, though, and the slits in back for ICS, power cords, etc. don't always line up well with the shelves at each level. I had a hell of a time setting it up right the first time with no gear to move around, so moving it would be a very big undertaking.

Here's a different company that can improve isolation of the Salamander racks for those who are interested.

Instead of the 2 X 12s I went with some particle board shelving available at Home Depot or Lowes. The material is 1 inch thick and 20 inches deep and comes in 6 foot lengths. Each shelf has white trim on one edge and black on the other. You can paint them any color you like. They run about $20 a piece and your choice of decorative bricks cost about $1.50 each or less. Total cost of my rack is under $50.00. Total new cost of the gear in the rack is over $13,000 (much of it is vintage). I just depends where your priorities are and how deep your pockets are.
    Good luck, Phil

This is the rack I use. I've been very happy with it. I think it looks great, holds my heavy amps well, plenty of depth for deep components. Its nice and modular too so you can add a shelf here or there with ease.

Mines not the best but it works and match's all the wood in the room. It's made by Bell'O

Also before someone says something about the wires on the left side of the rack. those are the wires for the RF/IR repeater for the Harmony 890 and when that picture was taken I had just installed them and hadn't tucked them away yet.. LoL
